Anybody who thinks that they hate rap should check out Buck 65, especially his new album, "Talkin' Honky Blues." He's a better lyricist than Tom Waits, and as good an arranger to boot. And although I do not know whether or not he is still explicitly a Christian, there are many deeply sympathetic references -- if you get a chance, listen to "463" and "Roses and Blue Jays", which open up whole new emotional territories for rap to explore.

Oh, and of course the Kanye West album is fantastic too. Much less likely to convince rap-haters, though.

While I'd have to say I like a little of every genre you put up there (although classic rock isn't a genre, but I digress), except for Jazz/Blues. Of course, I'm really heavily into Industrial music, and Electronic music in general, so my main second category would be 'Other'. I also listen to a lot of Goth Rock and Alternative Dance (of course, Alt. Dance would actually fall under the Electronic category).

Had to go with "other."

I like:

Proto-Punk (which is not really a genre, but covers a lot of my favorite bands)
Classic Era Punk/New Wave
Post-Punk
Psychedelia
60s-70s singer songwriters (think Dylan, Morrison, Drake)
Indie rock
Some Brit-pop (Radiohead mostly, Coldplay's nice)
Cool Jazz
Fusion

I am Heavy rock and metal all the way. (especially Metallica) but I only like things that are 10+ years old. I am sorry, but nu-metal (new metal) sucks

Metallica? Have you listened to ST ANGER?

Thats just about the WORST album I have ever listened to in my life.

Ugh ugh ugh

I like rap the most...Eminem is my favorite....I don't see why most Christians hate rap, it's not that bad.

I personally think Eminem is a joke. He's always mocking MTV... saying how he dosnt want popularity- and how stupid MTV is... trying to be a "rebel". Guess who won MTV's music awards one year?

It was Eminem! And you know what he did? He got up, thanked everyone, and accepted it! If Eminem really backed up what he said with actions, he wouldnt have evern gotten outta his seat, when his named was called.

Rap itself isnt bad, but let me ask you something: name a few GOOD WELL WRITTEN rap songs that glorify Christ.

... or Big & Rich?
Funny enough, my dad always turns off Big & Rich's 'Save A Horse' whenever it comes on because he says the way they sing it is too much like rapping. I was thinking, "What? That's not even close to rapping." When I first heard it I could hear a drum machine, played like it normally is during Alternative Dance or Industrial music. I thought that was pretty cool, but the song kind of gets on my nerves a little bit. I would count them as alt-country though, despite the fact I've yet to hear an alternative radio station play them (although VH1 did play the video for 'Save A Horse').
