This was the previous situation concerning the mobile home I owned with my sister.
"Somebody wants to buy me out of something we both own but refuses to tell me how much they are going to pay me until after I sign the paperwork handing the ownership over to them exclusively, basically using almost threatening language to tell me to sign the paperwork. That person has already had an appraisal done to know the value of the item and I have requested to see the results as I am responsible for half the cost of the appraisal. However, that person refuses to show me the appraisal and is using it as leverage to try to get me to sign the paperwork without telling me first how much the item is worth and a price of what they will pay me. What do I make of that and how do I stand strongly so that I don't get taken advantage of? Is this coercion?"
After I posted this, she finally told me how much she would pay me and provided me with the appraisal. Once I got that info from her, I signed over the rights to the home to her. The closing was yesterday.
Now a few minutes ago, she just emailed me saying that she has quotes for damages to the walls and to the carpet that I made, and that she wants to know if she should deduct the damages costs from what she said she would pay me. I did not damage the walls and I sprinkled holy oil all over the carpet because she was giving me so much hell when we were still living together. However, we have a carpet cleaner, which she is keeping, and the carpet already had stains on it. With this information it means that she already had gotten quotes for the damages before I signed over my ownership, however, she was waiting to hit me with this once I signed over my rights. She had the quotes for everything done before she gave me the estimate for how much she would pay me. Is this even legal? What do I do? I cannot afford a lawyer.
