who makes saints according to the bible us or jesus?
it seems to be a power thing, have people who have been made saint, been made saints who are not saints in history?

as far as I have seen in my own life, people who have been made saints and are going to be saints had too much responcibility to be saint anyhow! what is a saint then?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

As I understand it, all who are saved by God are saints. However, we humans can't be sure who is a saint and who isn't. Some churches have declared that some people who have fought the fight and finished the race are certainly now among the saints in heaven. They don't make them saints. They declare that they have observed their sainthood to a high degree of certainty.

No church (except, I suppose by the very rare declaration of anathema) says anyone is NOT a saint. So no list of saints is ever considered inclusive of ALL saints. They are just lists of people whose lives can be celebrated, commemorated, and looked to as examples by Christians.

Although I don't come from a church tradition that makes declarations of sainthood, I appreciate those churches that do. I especially appreciate visiting churches with many diverse icons because it not only reminds me of the "great cloud of witnesses" mentioned in Hebrews, but it also sometimes causes me to wonder and learn about some kinds of people recognized as saints that my own tradition would not think of to honor, such as St. George, the warrior, or St. Mary of Egypt, the penitent who never DID anything except repent and pray. When I think of the broad diversity of saints, I put these two on the extremes, and it puts a slightly different perspective on the kind of activism my tradition tends to honor.

within churches, are they not self made saints because of their power not responsibilities by the next in line, like if you hold a posision you are all most guarenteed no matter what evils may happen under their control or responcibility! and so on, and so on. as far as I can see, some of the people in line todays are making other saints lose their value if you like, or has it always been like this.

ok,is this realy true, this is what we are told, I am no historic expert so I can not state about what cruelty happen in thier time which they might be responsability for that they could try stop, but I know the news of today and my lifetime and seen what happens.I mean within the church, recent saints and saints be, in my opinion and without naming names, they didnt seem to act like what you would expect from saint in their life, but they had power. the thread is for you that are interested and know about history to tell me wheather it has always been like this throughout history or not, I dont know, all I know is what I see today and I assume it has always been like this.

thank you,
sure that could apply to everyone, I mean thats not that special, many christian people live up to that meaning because they have so little power. I mean within the church, we dont know who has been washed in the blood of jesus or forgiven by him,I think it is important because alot of people pray to them after they are saints. I know of some in line for sainthood today where those people defenitly have not been forgiven by others as I speak to many of them, at least due to the proposed saints responsibilities in their life time and the actions they took but it must be that they are being considered because of their role or position in life and the power they had,
as many of these people I speak to are sick and poor, can we not be sure jesus listens to the poor and sick as the bible shows that is what he did.
as he is the same today and always, so I was wondering if the saint we have have today are indeed valid and has the chosing of saints always like this throughout history or not.or when or at what stage did coruption set into it.

A saint is a holy person of God.

The word saint is the LATIN based word for the TEUTONIC word "holy one."

Both Catholics and Protestants understand that those who are truly following Christ are saints. Many Protestants don't quite want to know this fact. When the Catholic church declares a saint they are not "making" this person a saint but recognizing said person was indeed a saint, that is, a holy one of God, a person who TRULY followed Jesus and there is no doubt this person was a true follower. On the other hand, many Protestants seem to think one is a saint by declaring one's self a Christian - that notion is entirely incorrect.

There are two types saints. Those which follow Christ here on earth and are in Heaven and then those that are officially recognized by the Church. The ones that are recognized by the Church go through a lengthy process that requires years of investigation by the Sacred Congregation of Rites. But in reality Christ, through the Holy Spirit, is what makes us saints. To be a saint all you have to do is to Love God with everything that you are and your neighbor as yourself. Give up everything: ego, desire for material things, fear and everything that impedes your relationship with God. Pray constantly and confess and repent of your sins all the time. God provides the means for us to become saints.
