Hi all!
I am looking into what a 'Worship Experience' is for a school assignment in the context of worship through song. I know there is many ways to worship God everyday but for the purpose of my assignment it is specifically on worship through music.

I have a survey that I have posted on this website: (https://goo.gl/forms/QzP59o73JowDjAv12) here is the link to the survey if you would like to take part/ looking for more information.

But I am looking for a wider answer to the question:
What is a 'Worship Experience' and what makes it so memorable/impactful?
Is there key factors/elements in creating a 'Worship Experience' that is so memorable/impactful?

And this thread seemed perfect to get many different view points/ angles.

-Thanks Liam.

For me, it is communication (communing or communion) with God, that's the simplest way I can put it...

Which includes songs, prayers, sensing him communicating through others with me and myself and others... Other mediums as well, audio and visual mainly... Nature even...

God can and will and does communicate (commune) with us (and us with him) all the time in all kinds of ways, which is worship to me, for those who have "ears to hear", and "eyes to see" kind of thing...

God Bless!

Assuming how music affects our spirits, souls, and bodies will be addressed in your paper so this will be on some worship aspects.

How we live our lives is to be worship to Yahweh (Rom 12:1-2; Col 3:23) plus ...

Since Yahweh is Spirit (John 4:24), worship involves our hearts, our spirits (Matt 15:8). We can worship Him privately and/or corporately. Singing and praising Him can help lead us into worship. In temple worship, the children of Israel bowed their heads and worshiped Yahweh such as in Exo 4 and 12. But a particular physical posture isn't required but it is necessary to be engaged with a true humble and surrendered heart that has depth and sincerity as integral aspects (John 4:24). Music can play a vital role. The lyrics of some songs are about us but when it is primarily about Him such as religious Christmas music then we can worship Him. (Even though there are some great songs, hopefully we can get to the point of worshiping Him without music).

Whether it's worship in private (Matt 6:6, Luk 5:16) or in another setting, the pivotal point is when we get our minds off ourselves and deliberately focus on Yahweh. Praise seems to be more about Him such as what He has done for us compared to worship that's to Yahweh, giving Him adoration, honor, and reverence. Worship is when we give Him the glory due His name (Psa 96:8) which can include music.

(Recommend Worship Him; Discover the Joy of Pure Spiritual Worship by Fuchsia Pickett includes her personal testimony).

Some don't think worshiping Yahweh in private is important. But when we're not on this earth anymore, the sounds of heaven includes "...the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps:" (Rev 14:2); trumpets (Rev 8:6), noise of wings (Eze 1:24) ten thousands times ten thousands saying "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing." "Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever" (Rev 5:12-13). There probably won't be things for us to do (not in the traditional sense) nor "our" music. There won't be anything between us. We'll be face to face with Him. So seems it would be a good idea to learn to worship Yahweh in this way now.

Also, how do we know when we've been in His presence? For one thing, we'll have joy (Psa 16:11). Another difference when it's worship, we'll want to be with Him again and again and again. "And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp, afar off from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came to pass, that every one which sought the Lord went out unto the tabernacle of the congregation, which was without the camp. And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the tabernacle, ... And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses. And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle." Exo 33:7-11

If you really want to know the answer to this question, you will first have to understand what worship is (as in worshiping God). This is not a quick visit to a dictionary. It is a multi-year life goal to understand worshiping God. However, I expect the due date for your assignment isn't that flexible. A good way to start would be to study the definition of worship in a Bible Dictionary (example).

There are times in worship, where you move beyond just singing about the Lord to singing to the Lord. Where you know you are touching God's heart and ministering to Him as well as being ministered to. When you have thrown off the burdens and enter the throne room of God in the Spirit. I would call it an encounter. Not that we are seeking anything but His face., & you are in the glory of his presence. Much like in prayer.
