Fijian, I guarantee you, if someone killed someone, then wrote a note that he did it, and you let him walk away based on even very strong evidence to the contrary, you would end up either unemployed or behind a desk.
Any detective knows that the first 24 hours is crucial, after that the credibility of the evidence spikes downward exponentially until it reaches bottom --- called "cold."
