I don't believe I had ever know a church to use that one as their main hymnal. It's a great one for many of the old, often forgotten hymns! My copy of it has an extra hymn pasted onto the front leaf ("How Many Lost?").wheredaluv said:We use All-American Church Hymnal.
Hmm-is that the title or just a description?Aimee03 said:The red back hymnal.
Many churches no longer use hymnals at all, opting for the power point (or some similiar computer program). In fact, when my own church moves into our new multi-purpose building, they are doing away with the hymnals (like I said, we currently use The Celebration Hymnal), but in the new building we will have 2 large screens and no hymnals. I think it is sad. There is something special about opening and singing directly from the hymnal.Try said:(editted) My Wesley Foundation uses a variety of modern praise-song collections, but usually shows the lyrics on a power-point presentation.
I and my daughter will also miss the hymnals when we move into our new building later this year (well, if all goes right!). The powers that be have decided not to have them.brinny said:We do not have hymnals....we use 3 big screens. I miss hymnals tho'
I agree! Both have an advantage. Using a screen frees your hands for clapping, raising in praise, etc., but again, there IS something special about opening a hymnal and singing from it!Maeyken said:(editted) We have not moved to ppt worship in my church yet, but in my boyfriend's church they've used it for awhile. They still have hymnals in the pews, but don't use them. But whenever there's a hymn, I pull it out. There's just something about using a hymnal!
Sure! But not to the extent that the Methodist do. Many, many churches use the wonderful hymn "And Can It Be". Another that used to be used a lot but has fallen from wide spread use is "A Charge To Keep I Have". At Christmas time, one of the most sung hymns would be "Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus". Or even more so, "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing".loveall said:Do other churches besides the Methodists use any of Charles Wesley's hymns?
Hope Publishing are also the publishers of The Worshipping Church from which the terrible lyrics I have posted came.Jenda said:Our church uses it's own hymnal, "The Hymns of the Saints", but we also use the hymnal from Hope Publishing, "Worship & Rejoice".
