Sounds like you guys have had some bad experiences with DJ's in the past.

I DJ myself (only music, none of that scratching) to give myself something to do at night and make a little extra money on the side. Before every wedding, I get descriptive details about what the bride and groom want to hear. Unfortunately, I've heard stories ranging from DJ's who are silent the entire night and speak only with a flat, bored voice, to those who go off the wall playing "their" favorite music over what they should have been playing.

There is one rule for weddings that I might understand more than most other DJ's for the simple fact that I'm married... it's the Bride and Grooms day, and it's the DJ's job to do his part in keeping it magical for them.

i guess when i see weddings i see a lifetime commitment, and these two people are making a promise that they will be together forever and be one. And weddings are just so beautiful, seeing two people so in love is just so great!

Oh weddings...
I've been to my fair share and I agree with all of the above.
1. Alcohol = dancing and mischief
2. DJ's = embarassment and annoyance

Make sure you have plenty of Advil and Tums.

Only eat things that you know you like and stomach can handle.

Never dance with the bride or groom to any song with the words "booty", "hump", or "thong". You're just asking for trouble.

Don't anger the bride. She has her entire female posse with her, is drunk and WILL beat the crap out of you.

Things I have learned to NOT DO:

1) Don't have and assigned seat, sit down dinner
2) Don't change your flower arrangement the day before.
3)Don't let your mom and friends pick your wedding dress.
4)Don't wear a strapless wedding dress, for an outdoors wedding in the middle of winter.
5) Don't have an outdoor wedding, South Ga weather is too unpredictable.

Things I have learned TO DO:
1) If you have a friend that is a caterer, photographer,florist, etc...ask them, odds are, they will either give you a smaller fee or no charge at all!
2)Sweet and simple is the best

hmm..

Even if you dont drink, don't refuse to serve alcohol, some people drink some dont, you know you're families and friends, and have to trust them (or appoint someone to keep an eye on the known drunks),

Wedding meals are always more enjoyable with a little wine.

Don't have an open bar, pay for champagne for the speeches, or have a bottle of wine per table to start but leave it at that.

Not everyone needs to do a speech, keep it to either one parent each or a joint speech unless parents dislike each other and then best man and maid of honour. Other key friends and siblings have the oppurtunity to do something after the official speechs in the form of something like a photo presentation or something informal. Everyone else, if they want to contribute a message in advance it can be pasted in the guestbook to start it off.

That letting the ginger rectory cat into the church halfway through the service really livens things up!! He went up into the organ loft but the organist chased him out, then this streak of ginger lightening shot across the front of the altar and down a side aisle. I was in the choir and was finding it very hard to keep a straight face! Then the bride started laughing and that set everybody off.

2. I'm sorry
3. Let's pray

I'd have to agree with that but not just in marriage, in relationships in general.

I will definately not choose something cheesy for the Father-Daughter or First Married Couples Dance. Everyone does things like Butterfly Kisses, and it's just way too schmaltzy for me. Sweet Child O' Mine FTW!

well Young Adults, does tend to be as Silent as Grave, the odd zombie should be expected.

As to Ye Olde Op, I've been to 3.. or possibly 4 weddings.. and all I learnt was that I don't like going to weddings, and if at all possible, I'd avoid going to my own.

I've been trying, unsuccesfully so far to bring this forum back to life, so far it's just a bunch of walking zombies at best though.

Considering I was out of town for my cousin's wedding last weekend, a couple of things that occurred to me:

The reception was held in a dinner club hall that was not really big enough, and so there was a choice of the interior seating, and then alternately a set of tables around the outside. Outside was more comfortable for moving around, but most everyone else was inside. And inside was crowded as all get-out.

There needs to be more variety in the types of beverages than just tea and strawberry (that tasted like grapefruit) punch. Or at least better cups - I could take one regular-sized gulp and the stuff was practically gone.

i think they need to merge singles at YA. I mean i know they're intended for two different groups, but it all seems to be the same crowd in both

Yea, it's just lame because singles is the only place with any activity. Womens forum is Dead, Young Adults is Dead, courting couples is practically dead and they only talk about relationships.

Then people on singles complain about people who are in relationships posting there. But where are we supposed to post? It is the only place with activity and a variety of random topics.

Actually right now even the singles forum seems to be on a lull and not many of the threads are interesting.
