Diane is derived from Diana:

Probably derived from an old Indo-European root meaning "heavenly, divine", related to dyeus (see ZEUS). Diana was a Roman goddess of the moon, hunting, forests, and childbirth, often identified with the Greek goddess Artemis. Diana Spencer, the Princess of Wales, was a famous bearer of this name.

Behind the Name

My surname is of German origin-there is actually a town in Germany that bears my name . I don't know if I have a connection with that town though. There are also some barons (von ____) that I share my name with. I don't know if I am related to them or not.
