• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Should Truth be sacrificed for good feelings?

  • No. Truth should always be spoken in love.

  • Yes. People's feelings are too precious to be hurt by truth, and facts.

  • I hate either/or questions. Therefore, chalk me up for "Lukewarm."

Should truth be sacrificed for an atmosphere of good feelings?

This is motivated by the abundance of censorship that happens when people respond to things they disagree with.

This is in the "New Believers" thread. So let's take the blinders off and ask the young believers in particular:

Do you want the truth regardless of how it makes you feel?

or

Do you want people to say things that make you feel good, even if your belief happens to be false?

Consider all the prophets of God... who were mostly killed for speaking the truth.

And NOT least of all, consider Jesus Christ... who was whipped and brutally murdered for not compromising His Love for God and speaking the Truth.

Dear BeLedbyHISSPIRIT

I think they ought to keep a record under the posts made on JUST how many of my posts have been censored and removed.

Then I would have something to be proud of. No one can beat me!!! LOL

On a serious note I think it is WRONG to censor or remove a post that speaks to the TRUTH!!!

Some folks really get a bang out of reporting you if they get to feel too uncomfortable because of the TRUTH. It happens on both the bipolar and CHRISTIAN ADVICE site.

GOD'S WORD is SERIOUS and can cut like a knife if you’re in the wrong.

WHEN WE DO POST WE NEED TO REMEMBER:

I am an honest person, and if someone asks me for my opinion or insight or whatever I will answer them as truthfully as possible. Of course I do so with as much love as possible, there is a lot to be said for tact

I do this because I also expect the same, if I am asking for someones advice on something I want the truth, even if they think it will hurt me. People need to not be so concerned with feelings, we sure would get more accomplished that way.

So no, the truth should never be sacrificed to spare the feelings of someone.

Depends on the situation, really. Some instances require a certain amount of tact. Especially in the workplace; there's much less room for brutal honesty for many reasons. But in personal relationships, I think it's important to try to be as honest as possible.

There is probably always a kinder way to speak the truth. But truth must be spoken even if it is painful. There are however times when it is wise not speak, look at how God condemns the friends of Job. The truth must be spoken in love and in whole, a partial truth is no truth at all. There are times when we might be tempted to speak just to impress others, and what we might say might be the truth but our motives were not pure. So it is not just the words we speak, but the heart that we speak them from which must be true.

Hi BLBHS,

Good question, because everytime I post TRUTHS, and I believe TRUTHS comes from personal experience, in honesty, and good faith, I have people, that is, many people who criticise what I post, and personally attack me on what I post. Is that the same as the prophets being stoned to death.

MMMmmm, many such people do live in glass houses.

ive had to click lukewarm. i knew it wouldnt be a popular/the right choice (such a negatively baised/loaded answer never would), but you have to be honest eh?

i would rather and i meant much rather be told the whole truth, cast my feelings to the wind, honesty is the best policy. but saying that i know, i have in the past, not told someone every thing because the best way to learn is often to find out for yourself. do you know what i mean?

I voted NO - especially here - I think the Truth should ALWAYS be spoken & to censor it, censors & prohibits God's will from being done!

Nothing wrong with speaking the truth to someone in love and humility, but in a forum situation it's wise to be wary of controversial topics because you may or not be right. Take read through Foxes Book of Martyrs and other bible history books if you want to see how many people were killed due to different interpretations of the Word, usually due only to semantics.

Dear Fenderbender

If the advise you render is backed by GOD'S WORD why would a person want to be wary of a controversial topic???

If a REAL CHRISTIAN does not take a STAND STANDING ON THE ROCK OF GOD'S WORD who will??? satan???

We must NEVER forget that we don't control the world, GOD DOES!!!

If you stand on TRUTH and it causes a war then GOD WILLS IT. OR would HE rather you withheld the TRUTH or lied to keep the peace???

THIS IS NOT HARD IF WE JUST REMEMBER:

X Even though you can't see him, GOD is there!!! O ( click on the x and drag to the O ) ( then see who is with you ) steven

Backed by references to God's word does not mean it is right. The devil can quote scripture. And Job's friends spoke a partial truth backed by scripture. It can't be a partial truth, you have to speak the whole truth. And as human's we are often so impressed by ourselves that we just quote the parts that make us look better. We try to win an argument or puff ourselves up. That should not be our focus at all. Instead we should be focused on lifting others up and gently guiding them to the truth.

I believe this post has gone a bit off tract to the OP. So to continue on would only make things worse.

I would like people to tell me the truth, what good are lies if it makes me feel good. I am always for the truth, but not for people's interpretations of what is truth but truth that comes from God. These days people say many things and all of them say it is the truth... but which 'truth' to believe that is the question. I wish to be told the TRUTH because God's word says that if we stay in His word that we shall know the truth and THE TRUTH WILL SET US FREE.
