What do you think of Simple Plan?

Just to let you all know,I do love the color black,but I am not going to smoke,get piercings,or dye my hair wierd colors.I only have black shirts,blue shirts,and white shirts.I only have a pair of black shoes.I only have tan pants,white pants,black pants,and blue pants.

I think that the problem people have with Simple Plan is that they potray an image that they don't live up to. Just reading the titles of their albums is amusing. In addition, they play pop music. I don't think that punk should really be added to the equation. Some of SP's songs are definitely catchy, but are they good? Perhaps to some. I doubt that many people will remember them in 20 years though. If you like Simple Plan, feel free to enjoy their music. However, they aren't the type of band that will be adored by people with abstract tastes.

Thanks for not saying really rude stuff,blackwasp.I know that I will remember them in twenty years because 1.I like Pierre Bouvier(vocals) and Chuck Comeau(drums) and 2.I have liked them since 2002 and grew up listening to those songs.I have my 5-page letter in my pocket that I am going to type and print tomorrow.Good night!

interesting.... meh, theyre listen-to-able, im a bigger fan of mxpx and greenday, but each to his own. the only problem i have with them is the song 'God Must Hate Me' that doesnt float my boat. i just dont listen to that song. but as i said before,each to his own, all music is good,coz its an expression.different people get different meanings out of different things and find what they need to find where they need to find it.

Quite a bit actually. At that young of an age. Kids:
1.Have notoriouslly horrible taste in music
2.Their parents dictate what they listen to(this goes back to number 1)

My parents don`t care what I listen to.

I'm going to assume if you popped in the newest morbid angel cd and jammed out really loud in front of your parents they would probablly say something. If not your parents are alot cooler than mine were.

They could care less.

i felt the same way about linkin park... i was crazy about them... i grew out of them within 2 years (though i still respect them)

trust me... you will grow out of simple plan... you might remember them in 20 years, but i doubt you'll still like them.

and i just have to say... you may respect eminem, but not enough to spell his name right (don't jump on me... just something i picked up)

I don`t respect him alot.Some of his songs I hate.I sometimes can forget about my favorite band,but when a new album comes out and I listen to it,then I instantly like them again.I highly doubt that I will get tired of them because 1.Scooby Doo 3 is coming out and they usually sing a song for the Scooby Movies. 2.I am going to a concert when they have one at the tweeter center 3.I am going to get the role model shirts and simple plan shirts.

Ok, sorry for jumping on you. I just thought it was ridiculous that you asked for opinions and then dismissed them, because I think you were expecting the majority of people to say they loved SP.

IMO, I honestly don't care what music is classified as or what the 'image' of the band seems to portray. The only thing that really matters to me when I listen to music is whether or not the music is catchy and/or has depth or speaks to me in some way. My tastes in music span multiple genres. Heck, I have KMFDM followed by Sarah McLachlan on one of the CDs I've burned. That said, I can't stand it when somebody tries to discredit an artist's music just because the artist is a 'sell-out' or a 'poseur'. Honestly, there are bigger things to complain about than what kind of person the artist is behind the music and what their motives were for recording what they did. Falsely portraying or stereotyping a genre of music is the only thing that gets to me (i.e. the TRL crowd wowwing over Marilyn Manson and his 'Goth Rock' - yes, I was being sarcastic; Manson is an Industrial artist). Pop-punk bands, to my knowledge, don't do this. Most of the programs I've seen do make reference to older, established punk bands, etc.

I don't see classifying bands like Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, or Blink 182 under Punk as degrading to the British and New York bands that established the genre simply because of the fact that the work of those original bands is what defined the style and will always be what it has been - good, solid music that had an impact. People thought Post-Punk (specifically New Wave and New Romantic, but just in general) music was a blasphemy but out of that has come a lot of great music that also had an impact. A genre of music or the artists that defined it is not on such shaky ground that a pop-friendly variation of the style is going to destroy the importance of their contributions or somehow insult these artists, unless the artists and genre in itself were fake to begin with, which is certainly not the case with Punk. Melodic Punk (what Pop-Punk was called before it went mainstream and morphed into an Emo hybrid) has always had a pop-friendly sound even if a lot of the artists were fringe in the beginning. I wouldn't say they degrade the integrity of New York Punk or British Punk or California Hardcore, etc.

Anyway, I think Simple Plan is ok. They're not my favorite band in the world, but I did see them at Warped '03 and Grad Nite and enjoyed both shows. There's a few songs that I like, even if I don't have their albums.

I've listened to Welcome To My Life, and I felt the urge to scream "grow up!" at my radio. You would have to be a total idiot to assume that nobody else has a hard life.

My sentiments exactly. They are also the same for, "I'm Just a Kid". Please...

There is a song called Grow Up!You,know alot of people are kids inside even when they are older.

if you don't respect him, why'd you say you do?

i think the fact that you're so obsessed with simple plan will contribute to your getting tired of them. you'll burn them out. if you don't obsess over one band, then all the bands you like will last a lot longer. and going to a concert doesn't mean you're guaranteed to like them for years and years later... i saw linkin park last year thinking it was the best thing EVER... within 2 weeks i'd heard bigger and better stuff and my obsession for them dropped... just like that...

I liked simple plan for while, i have the first cd hidden somewhere, but their new album seems a bit whiny, I mean, grown, rich men complaining how their life is so horrible just annoys me personally.

I think that they rock!
