Just because church leaders qualify "curse words" as bad fruit, doesn't mean Jesus does. I'm not saying its right, I'm saying its a grey area, just like music and movies. I personally feel about it like moreinsorrow, it should not be used as an example of bad fruit or as a terrible thing. However, if it causes anyone to stumble and is used outside of its context then certainly it is wrong. That's like saying that God looks at your heart, not your actions. Our actions and our words should reflect what's in our heart & mind. It's in the Bible, I just quoted from Matthew 7 yesterday, vs. 20
"Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them."
Your fruit being your words and your actions. I can guarantee you that at least 80% of church leaders in the U.S. would agree that curse words would qualify as 'bad fruit'.
I can understand slipping up every now and then if you had it as a bad habit before you became a believer, or if you're around it all the time, but saying it's not wrong is going a bit far.

And if you read prior posts, no one here is saying that its ok to walk around dropping f-bombs and cussing every other word. But it's also not wrong to do so every once in a while, especially when emphasizing a point, as is the case in many of the songs we're referring to (ie-Pedro the Lion, U2, etc).

Well, that's the spirit.Oi.... I won't attempt to change your beliefs. I just thought I could show you something....guess not. Oh well....
What's with it? I mean should "Christian" music really contain cursing? I don't know... I am not trying to point fingers. CCM is basicly what I listen to. I am not trying to say that christians don't ever curse, not that they should in my opinion, but I don't think CCM should contain profane cursing like S.O.B. or other anoying words. It really isn't that big of a problem now since most of it is found with indie artists trying to attract attention, but who knows if it will grwo into other areas of the industry? I don't take them all that serious when they sing about Jesus then go and curse. I am not trying to say they aren;t Christian, Bono is one man I look up to and he annoyingly curses, but when it is labeled Christain music, I don't know. Like the band Lost Dogs (alot of you probably don't even consider them a christian band), they were under BEC records and are now basicly indie, but their current release contains cursing and other light profanit like S.O.B and other stuff, I don't know. just wondered what you guys thought!
TOTALLY
ROCK ON!
read the whole thread, you'll see examples. of course, that's aside from the artist examples that are IN THE POST YOU QUOTED.
Umm, Bono is a Christian. He may not fit into the steroypical view of a Christian but he has said in many interviews that he believes in God and Jesus. The Devil is not miselading people through Bono, because I know for a fact U2's music has strengthed my Christian walk, and probably numerous others on these boards. And please use punctuation, I could hardly understand what you typed.but these people are not even saved bono is not i dont even think he has said so i know we see him on some christian music stations and thats sad because its missleading people and thats wat the devil is doing thats his job its to confuse men.
Honestly though, I think the typical, cookie-cutter Sunday morning version of Christianity is more damaging and misleading that the kind we see in people like Dave Bazan, Moby, Bono, Common, and countless others.

which makes you sooooo much more righteous than Bono.so you are saying if someone says that they belive in God that they are saved. then that would be over the half of the world. because if you look at tv you can see that many people and stars say that they are saved but does their life fit what the word says not really. does Bonos know it does not he might do alot of good works that may look to be Godly, but like someone said in one of thier post that he uses cuss words in his songs so that does not sound like he is living for God to me. but we all have are own mind but i choose to have the mind of christ.
not being smart here, but yes. I've read his book "A Conversation w/ Bono" which, while it was written by another person, it is a series of interviews the writer held with Bono, in person, before writing the book. It is autobiographical in nature, and he talks at length, and candidly, about his faith. Bono is one of the few (since we've been using him as an example) who has been this transparent about his faith in a public forum, but I agree with you that regarding others who may come up, leaving it between that person and God, and killing any kind of speculation, is completely necessary.Does anyone here REALLY have any first-hand knowledge of him? If so, let that person speak. The remainder should just let it be.
Okay, you won't believe he is a Christian unless he admits he is saved...these people are not even saved bono is not i dont even think he has said so
so you are saying if someone says that they belive in God that they are saved.
Please don't use swearing as a measure of who is saved and who is not. Well I guess the Apostle Paul can't be saved because he used the equivalent of s*** in the Bible. Give me Bono's bad mouth and works that have saved thousands of life over someone with the cleanest mouth who sits at home doing nothing for the world. I also said that Bono believes in Jesus, meaning that that he believes He died and rose again and redeems mankind from their sin. If you want to judge people's salvation by their mouth...it's fine with me. I choose not to.so you are saying if someone says that they belive in God that they are saved. then that would be over the half of the world. because if you look at tv you can see that many people and stars say that they are saved but does their life fit what the word says not really. does Bonos know it does not he might do alot of good works that may look to be Godly, but like someone said in one of thier post that he uses cuss words in his songs so that does not sound like he is living for God to me. but we all have are own mind but i choose to have the mind of christ.
