I think he has some important things to say. My first reaction was, why would I consider someone a Messiah because he does tricks? But reading a little further, that's not his point at all -- he's just trying to get people to evaluate their decisions, and avoid being gullible.

I haven't seen Brown in operation, but he reminds me of an artist, pointing out weaknesses in society and addressing them boldly.

One of the weaknesses in Christendom is a tendency to follow the speakers instead of God. While even in his trying to debunk Christian leaders, I think ultimately he is helping them.

When Jesus arrived on earth, Jews had been waiting for a strong leader to pull them out of repeated bondage to other nations. They were waiting for a deliverer, just like people wait for deliverers now. Our walk is to be with Him, not with the visionaries and miracle-workers.

People don't need another messiah; God has always been there for us.

From what I have heard, he taps into an area of human ability and possibly supernatural power, that people tend to deny is there. Compare this to public skepticism about Christian healings and miracles. People will marvel at miracles of someone who isn't Christian, but accuse those who are of being charlatans. Just something to think about.

It reminds me of Moses and the miracles of the seven plagues...competing with the same miracles. Moses was doing them in order to set a couple million people free from slavery; Pharaoh's magicians were mirroring miracles to prove that they were just as powerful.

But what God wanted to accomplish was getting Pharaoh's attention, and turning his heart to voluntarily set people free. Pharaoh didn't listen, and lost his country's respect, his son, and all his pyramid workers.

It disturbs me that Brown intentionally deceived people in an area of faith, just to prove his point in the endorsement stunts. That tramples the heart of the laws on religious tolerance.

Regarding the human abilities Derren uses, he sais that it's all "magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection and showmanship", nothing supernatural.

i like to watch him (being british) - i find some of the techniques he uses to be useful in my line of work (psychiatric nurse). The ability to use social control and manipulation through words and MOSTLY body language manipulation is great.

nothing supernatural about it - he never claimed to work miracles.

I LOLed when I saw the title. Not at you, richard955, but at the idea of it. He's an awesome showman, and hugely clever, but it's a categorical NO on the Messiah front.

We'll know when Jesus comes back
