  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What are you working on now?

Thanks for the kind words! It took me a couple days. The hardest part was that since I didn't have a sewing machine, I had to sew the cushion covers by hand. I tell you, my fingers suffered the needle pricks quite a bit.

AWESOME Moms4Christ!
Just like immersedingrace I have a bench that needs re-doing. And I really should get off my duff and make a slip cover for my loveseat. Really cool fabric Moms4 did you special order it?

Actually, I got it down on Harry Hines at a fabric outlet store. I went to Joanns and to Hancock Fabrics but their prices almost made me rethink the upholstery project. It was a steal at $3 per yard and I got enough to make curtains as well but it is double sided so on the other side it's a different print...I'll post a pic later of the reverse side of it.

Harry Hines? Outlet store??? Oh boy - oh boy was I ever missing out! Sewing used to be a cheaper hobby, now it is more a labor of love with the price of fabric these days!

Yes, ma'm! Harry Hines is awesome for all things inexpensive. After my scare from looking at fabric prices with the two big stores, Joann's and Hancock Fabrics, I came home disillusioned thinking I wasn't going to be able to do the reupholstering of the chair, I pondered. I researched. Convinced I could find a better price on fabric, I got a bright idea and I looked it up on the internet.

I was amazed at how many fabric outlets they have just a few miles from my house...well, more like 25 miles but it was worth it. I'm planning on going back this Friday to buy more material to make my daughter some more dresses for church.

As many yards as I needed to do that chair it would've cost me well over 100 dollars if I'd gotten the fabric at the retail stores. That would've been for the more moderate 11 dollars a yard fabric. Instead, I paid just over 70 dollars and got enough fabric to do curtains for our living room as well.

Waldorf is a particular learning philosophy for children--learning through play, encouraging creative play, etc.

Waldorf dolls are really simple little dolls that have a particular look (little to no facial features to encourage kids to use their imagination to fill in the blanks). Here's an example of a Waldorf doll that I found online.

The ones I'm working on are little bitty baby ones. I can only HOPE that one day they will come out as nicely as the one pictured.

These sound a little like the "bunting baby" dolls I have a crochet pattern for. Since there is no face thay are great for babies (no little pieces to suck/chew off).

Wow Jen, those are beautiful! I'm sure yours will be just as nice as those. Do you have a fabric outlet store near you? I think you could market those on your own website and you would make very good money. Thanks for sharing that link with us.

what are spy bags and rice packs?

I saw the pics of the spy bags...just not sure why they have that name.

Thanks.
They are just square bags filled with rice and soothing herbs.e frozen and used as an ice pack or put in the microwave for 45-60 seconds and used as a heat pack. My daughter loves to make them so we save scraps from other projects and she goes to town.

I hope to start on my first Waldorf bunting doll today. I'm prewashing the fabric now. Hopefully it won't be too hard.
You're braver than I am. My girls love them but just reading the instructions intimidates me.

JulySheMustFly show us that skirt you made!
I took a pic of my 3yo in it today. I'll see if I can get it on the computer. s a simple thing based off her favorite skirt that is getting too small.

on the upholstery project! My sil used to do stuff like that. I tried. It wasn't pretty.

Moms4 ---Really like that fabric. Reversable too. So it is heavy enough for either drapes or upholstery. Plus as an added bonus no lining curtains or trying to match fabric.

jenptcfan love the little doll!

And those I spy bags are a great idea. Anyone have directions for those? My Granddaughters are going to be staying here with us until the end of the school year. And the school bus is just loud and busy. Maybe if I passed a few of those out some of the kids would quiet down.

I just looked around at the ones on Etsy and played with a design that I liked using scraps I had laying around. I used the heavy plastic from a comforter bag as the window so I didn't have to buy more fabric. Hubby gets scared when I go tot he fabric store. I can't seem to come out of it without spending at least $30.

Good luck with the drapes. I have to work on the ones in my kitchen but I've been putting it off.

LOL about hubby being scared.

The I Spy bags aren't too difficult. Once I figured out how to do it, I have really preferred using fleece because you don't have to hem it. My window is made out of vinyl from the fabric store--the kind you might use to make protective covers for lawn furniture.

Moms4Christ--I WISH I had a fabric outlet nearby! I live in a fairly small town, so I just kind of have to make do with what I can find. I've got Hancock's and Hobby Lobby. That's about it.

For the Waldorf dolls, I need clean and carded wool. Imagine my dismay. I don't know what carded wool IS--much less where to find it.

We used to have a knitting store in town--I'm thinking they might be able to help me at least get in the right track, but I noticed they aren't in the storefront where they used to be. I hope that doesn't mean they've gone out of business.

I might try making some of the rice packs. How long do they stay warm/cool each time you use them? Sounds like a good way to use up some of my smaller scraps.
