  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

At the moment, I'm reading three books at once:
- "Rites of Pleasure" by Jennifer Hunter, a book about sacred sexuality.
- "Tolkien and the Great War" by John Garth, a biography that shows how WWI influenced Tolkien's work.
And last but not least:
"Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert A. Heinlein, one of the most popular SciFi-novels ever.

It's a broad overview, basically, briefly touching upon various subjects such as tantra, alchemy, the concept of hieros gamos (the "holy marriage"), the historical roots of the highly neurotic perception of sexuality in our own culture and so on and so forth.

I'm not completely satisfied by the book, because the author touches but briefly upon the aspects that interest me the most (such as the historical aspects, Tantra and so on and so forth) and dwells much too long on current practices and beliefs of the neopagan community.

Nevertheless, it was somewhat enlightening. I always felt that sexuality should be regarded as sacred - after all, it's the source of new life -, but I didn't realize how strong the influence of my cultural heritage really is. In spite of all my beliefs, deep inside I'm not quite rid of the notion that sexuality is something to be ashamed of.

What a waste of precious paper! Even if we don't take the actual plot into account, the technicalities alone suffice to show how primitive these books are: Flat characters, no writing style whatsoever, grammatical mistakes of a reeeeally embarassing sort, etc.pp....

PLUS: The first chapters of book one were actually copied from Stephen King's "Langoliers".
