• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What are you afraid to try because you might like it?

I second this. Though I'm not necessarily afraid to try it because I'm afraid I'll like it.
Technically, I already seconded it, so... you're thirding it.

Y'all need to have a CF gathering in real life and we'll all head to a bar.. lol.
That would make you like the 1,743rd person to try and get me to drink!

Even in my position at work (which involves sales/marketing), the expectation is to mingle & drink, or take clients out for drinks. I am the first account manager in my company to never drink or buy a single drink for anyone (or cuss, or tell a dirty joke, or take a client to a strip club)... and I've had the most sales since I took the position lol. Just letting God do His thing.

I've seen alcohol ruin too many lives and too many people who are struggling to quit that I think I'm better off not trying it.
The key I think is to 1) not drink more than a limit you set ahead of time, and 2) not drink at all when depressed or angry.

Now you're talking.

I've been thinking lately of organising a meet up, in (possibly) New York, for next year sometime. I think I need to jab you all out of your comfort zones a bit.

I want to cross the pond at some point anyway for a bit of a jolly up - so I could meet you all en route. I also thought New York would be a relatively accessible place for most. (Especially me, it's a direct flight, and I can get sweet deals too.)

Depends on the time of year and such. I'd be open to it, though it'd be a pretty expensive weekend and I don't have any disposable income at this point in my life.

I think pretty much everyone thought that they could control their drinking when they started, but for many it turned out to be the other way around.

Personally, I've been at it for years now, it hasn't begun to control me yet. And those who I know do drink to much, don't care at all to control their intake - I don't know if they ever did.

We'll see how it pans out. If more people are interested then we'll start discussing options

My advice to you is the write to the university and get funding for a crap load of stationary, books, and internet data.

Speaking of which, I spent a whole months wages on Tipp-Ex. BIG mistake!

Definitely alcohol. Now, I have tried it, but only sips. I didn't like it too much but I'm worried that one day I'll try a specific type and I won't want to stop. My family is full of alcoholics and I'd like to be the sober one.
