Yeah, but the originals were burned apparently so we should trust whomever. You realize this means the Bible was written at least 160,000 years ago and predated the creation date of 4004BC or whatever.
As valuable as any of your other guesses.SelfSim said this:
My guess is that he had SN1987A in mind.
Well to be honest, I did notice later that I made that thread in 2012, and you didn't join until 2014, so you probably didn't see it.Nah .. but @Bradskii's question bore all the hallmarks of yet more epically meaningless literal Biblicist interpretations .. (to be discouraged at all times, of course).
Yes .. I was much happier in those days ..Well to be honest, I did notice later that I made that thread in 2012, and you didn't join until 2014, so you probably didn't see it.
Remember when they used to post pics of irony meters and waaaaambulances all the time?Yes .. I was much happier in those days ..

Ain't no thang. My bad. Apologies again.
No worries .. I was just kiddin' .. (and it doesn't really matter if its taken as denying biblical interpretations of creation, anyway).I must honestly apologise at this point. I was going to argue that I was simply looking for scientific answers and had no interest in any theological implications. But now I realise that instead of posting this in the science section, I started this in the 'Creation and evolution' sub section. Which, as you say, implies that it was looking to deny biblical interpretations of creation.
My bad. Apologies again.
If the universe is infinite then anything possible is actual. I have two comments:
1. That must be right.
2. That cannot be right.
Pick a number...
You lack patience. Not necessarily right. Is there any guarantee that if I roll dice for an infinite amount of time that I will roll a six? I mean probability is that not only will I, but that I will do so quite often. But there's no guarantee, I could, hypothetically, never roll a six, even if I keep rolling for an infinite amount of time.
So infinite does not necessitate the guarantee that something possible is actual. Only that probability of the possible happening becomes increasingly--infinitely even--likely.
It is probable, in a truly infinite universe, that all the exact cosmic dice rolls were such that there is a doppelganger of myself, living on an identical planet, and indeed having this same conversation. That's possible, even probable (given an infinite set of possible things to happen), but it's not certain.
That is to say, that in a range from 0 to 1, with 0 being something can never happen, and 1 being something will absolutely happen. We can grow infinitely closer to 1, without ever reaching 1.
I might be totally off here, but that's my reasoning.
