He has never been crazy about me not taking any form of BC but in both deciding we are ready to try, I can start taking more proactive steps toward conceiving. Only thing is, I don't know what proactive steps to take!

Losing a few pounds (assuming you aren't already at your ideal weight) can help spark healthy ovulation. If you have health-related issues that are harder to handle when you're pregnant (like dental work or... I don't know, x-rays), get that done now.
You all are like us. Not trying to, but not trying not to. It wouldn't do us much good to track ovulation anyway, I don't think. I am so irregular that it is near impossible to keep up with anyway. I am right there with you in wanting a second child. My boy will be 3 this month. I'm not exactly ttc but not exactly preventing it at this point (I don't use birth control but I don't aim to have sex on my ovulation days either). We were talking about officially ttc after my hubby comes back from the remainder portion of his training (he's in the Air National Guard) this summer.
