In line with the other thread about weirdness in church, I thought it would be interesting to list the weird things Jesus did that is recorded for us.

Spitting on people, trashing the temple, etc. Once we cover all of Jesus' weirdness, let's expand to include other Biblical weirdness like naked prophets, and prophets being told to marry prostitutes.

One I always thought was wierd was Mark 7:33 "And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue."

Talk about a strange manifestation of the Spirit? Just where did Jesus spit exactly? Kinda gross just to think about the where. LOL.

Okay, your turn!

I can believe almost anything that happens but it takes spiritual discernment to know the difference, it is not measured on how wierd it might seem but rather on whetehr it is Godl;y. Many strange things happen in church that are of God but if the flesh gets in the way it will never be recognized and can possibly shut down the move of God for that moment, even more fdangerous are those whoa re fleshly and call the spoirit of God a devil, that is blaspehy against the Holy Spirit, what is needed today is fear of the Lord. In most churchs there is none. This is the same Gopd that made us and hoklds the power of life and death in His hands yet most do not fear Him.

The thing about manifestations of the Spirit, whether they are true or false, is that Jesus demonstrated during His ministry all sorts of ways that He healed and ministered to people. Thinking about this I have come to the conclusion that there are manifestations that are engineered and encouraged by preachers, or by the people themselves in the belief that they are more spiritual if they have them. These are ones that I would consider to be of the flesh. I am not prepared to say that any are of the devil without being there to see the manifestation and to hear what the Holy Spirit says to me about it.

But there are manifestations that happen to genuine Christian believers that are not solicited either by the preacher, the person, or anyone else. These are spontaneous manifestations that happen as the person is genuinely worshiping God, or is being ministered to.

Unusual things often happen when a person in bondage is being released. Weeping and laughter may happen as the release comes. Often there are quite dramatic manifestations when people are delivered from demons. These are not the Holy Spirit, but the reaction of the demons as they are cast out. This often happened during the ministry of Jesus. Once we understand about these things, we are not so spooked out about them.

Any manifestation that is of the Holy Spirit follows along the line of the fruit of the Spirit as specified in Galatians, or the attributes of love in 1 Corinthians 13.

When a person is being delivered of a demon, the manifestation can be quite scary, sometimes in the form of screaming, falling down, writhing on the floor and foaming at the mouth. Sometimes, similar manifestations can happen when a person in bondage comes into an environment where the Holy Spirit is moving, and can be mistaken for that of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes it takes a person with the gift of discernment of spirits to know the difference. Take the girl who followed Paul saying that these are men who are the servants of the most high God and people should listen to them. Paul discerned that this was not the Holy Spirit talking and cast the demon out of her. The girl was speaking the truth, correctly identifying Paul as the servant of God and that people should listen to him. What was happening was that the girl was exalting Paul over Jesus, and the Holy Spirit's role is to exalt Jesus over and above His ministers.

Now, as I think about it, this is interesting, because we have all sorts of ministries that are exalting themselves with big pictures of the preachers all over the place, and people going to the meetings to hear the preacher, and whom they would not go and hear a relatively unknown preacher who may be exalting the Name of Jesus more than the big name fellow. I wonder if it is the same spirit that exalts the big name fellows, that was exalting Paul? That is, the one Paul recognised as a demon which he cast out of the girl?

Makes you think, doesn't it?

Anything to come from the realm of the spirit is in total contridiction to the five phyical senses. So it's only "natural'' that sensed ruled individuals, believer and non-believer alike, consider any mainfestation of the Spirit to be strange. But that shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that has any understanding of the scriptures. The book of Acts (of the Holy Spirit through the Church) demonstrates the truth that God use miracles, signs and WONDERS( because they cause people to wonder) to arrest the attention of the unbeliever.

Jedi.Kep, you're right, that is gross when you think about it.

Putting a man's cut off ear back on without stitches, that's a little strange.

Sort of like 'Oh, here, you lost your leg, let me put it back on for you'.

Yes! That was wierd. Mal's ear laying on the ground. Jesus says "I got this" and slaps it back on! Can you imagine what mal was thinking about it? LOL.

About spitting, it's a tradition from the past doctors. Our doctors today don't spit on us for sure but in those days they do. Jesus was giving a blind man a hint He's healing him
