Okay, My current website is hosted by AOL hometown. Yeah, I know.. We are getting rid of AOL and I need somewhere for my site to go. A free place, that is good and easy to work with. Thanks!

well if you have to go with a free host, geocities is probably your best bet. You do get a pop up ad...but not nearly as annoying as angelfire or tripod. And you can't link to an image on another site...that is, you wouldn't be able to use the IMG tag here at CF to link to a picture you have on your geocities server. And of course, if you have a high traffic site, you're going to run into bandwith problems...and if that's the case, then it's probably time to consider paying for hosting.

no, geocities is most definitely *not* your best bet. in fact, it should be avoided at all costs. check out www.webhosts4free.com , theres a whole stack of hosts that have no advertising whatsoever....and you get MySQL dbases and php and all sorts of cool stuff

www.netfirms.com is my favorite. Plenty of space, and there is just a little banner at the top of each page.

I stand corrected. I just do some occasional web design as a hobby, and geocities meets my needs for that. But I guess it may not be best if you're a bit more experienced than I am.

Tripod isn't any good and neither is Angelfire.

hosting.infofeast.com (no WWW, paste that in your browser). A friend I met on the internet and it's a great service ... plenty of space, no ads whatsoever, and he's cool. I think the signups are disabled for now, but they shouldn't be for long.

Freewebs randomly deletes accounts ... I know from experience.

I had a FreeWebs.com account for years... Never had any problems with this service. I would use either FreeWebs or Netfirms.

Use http://www.freewebspace.net/ to search for what you need. It has a lot of the free hosts, as well as their features and reviews by people who use it.

No ads whatsoever. Free forever. 20MB space (or was it 10? I don't remember).

I used to use them for a number of things that didn't need server-side processing, and they're really good.

Well I had 2 accounts from FreeWebs that were both deleted. My friend uses Netfirms and it seems pretty decent, but there are two small banners.

Hostrocket.com = Free quality hosting with no banners/popups, 25 mb of space and 2gb of bandwidth per month on a subdomain (yyy.hostrocket.com)

I've used hostrocket for many sites myself and for my clients, they have extremely good customer support and they are very friendly. They have excellent pay plans as well for small to huge sites. They are the best free provider I've ever encountered. They are much better than any of the previous recommendations, just try em out.

Also, if you have a domain, mydomain.com, (or want to get one) you can use zonedit.com to forward your address at hostrocket (or anywhere) for free.

Cclhosting is a good place. Its not free, but $40 per year for 50MB, 10 email accounts, and everything you need to have a good website. Its not a bad deal

Try fateback.com. They give free 40 MB but limit your file transfer to 400 KB per file. All you have are a few hyperlinks to their site at the top. You even get a subdomain! yourname.fateback.com

I'm hosted on 000k.com right now. No complaints. The advertising in cPanel would bug me except that the pop-ups are blocked. There was also another one, I think, globalweb.com.ru? Not sure if that's the right address. Anyway, that one looked to have similar features.

I miss my 10 MySQL databases. 1 GB bandwidth. Poor Zer0host died. My dear old webhost. I miss it so. *sniffles*

Once you find a host i recommend you using Power portal (pp) its php based and i heard its really really really really good they dont even put pop ups on your web page for the free versoin! and they have litteraly thousands of skins to chose from its so easy any one can set it up.....not that i work for them or any thing *cough cough* Graphic designer *cough cough* damn alergies.....
