I read hospitals are losing money due to ransomware. One hospital switched back to paper records after hackers attacked.

One thing that Trump was right about.....go back to paper.
There just has to be a different kind of way for people to communicate the way computers enable us to. A way that is hack-proof. Using our same equipment. Someone out there surely has an idea how to get it started.

Just on the off-chance, I've started breeding carrier pigeons.

Going back to paper is incredibly inefficient especially with today's hospital systems. I work at a VA and if a vet visits different VA sites, their records are easily accessible anywhere in the country. Most younger medical staff arent experienced in paper charting either. Yes, backup methods are available but not as long term solutions.

Paying $70 million ransom is also inefficient.

I've been working in Healthcare IT for 11 years now. We're not going to be going back to paper, believe me.
You might switch to iPads. I read they have not been hacked with ransomware. I keep my Windows laptop offline.

My employer runs our newest system on Linux.

And you cant run a hospital network on iPads... You need server farms.

The solution is not to go back to paper... as time goes on we will come up with other solutions to mitigate such attacks. Ransomware attacks are an unintended consequence of technology that in very way has made us more efficient... there are other solutions than to regress back to not using the technology.
