  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Would god send someone to hell in the following circumstances.

A child believes in God and attends church. Unfortunately his church's priest happens to be one of thew very few RC priests who abuse children. The child is horrifically abused and traumatized, left with the event haunting him for the rest of his life. He is so traumatized he cannot even go into a church, or pray. He loses faith in god and refuses to believe.

Would he god send him to hell?

Also its not a case of what he should do, as in, "its not god's fault, he should believe". This person has associated worship with abuse.

I have worked with and know many people who have been abused, some of them are Christians - being abused and faith in God are not necessarily opposed to each other, many people find God to be a source of strength when dealing with their abuse.

God is a kind and gentle God, he works with people and gives them every opportunity to be reconciled to himself, and help them to heal from even the most horrific abuse.

Having worked with people with mental health problems for many years I have learned a few things, one of them being that people are prone to blame their issues on everyone and anyone else. They are reluctant to take responsibility for their own actions, every when these actions are more destructive that their initial problem.

There is a lie touted about in western society that God isnt all that loving if he allows horrible things to happen to people. The world is full of sin, brought about by us. God did not cause the sin, he is the only person who can, and has sorted it out. We can choose Gods way or go our own, its our choice.

He should get away and stay away from religion. Something like that would mess up even the best of us. Fortunately the bible is fiction and filled with plagiarised stories so the kid will be better off without it. He will soon realize that just like heaven there is no hell. But that is ok.

the bible speaks of things like eternity and forever but I think some people don’t comprehend these words. eternity does not mean until the end of time, eternity means time that does not end. we exist in an eternal time zone that will never end. If you can fully comprehend this you will understand that not only does an eternity not end but it does not start either. It has and will continue to exist forever thus not needing a creator. Just like all the matter in all the universes. The very same matter you are made of.

You are blessed with an opportunity to experience a period of this eternal time. When your time is up that is it. no heaven no hell no worries. if you truly appreciate this then you are free to make the most of your life. Your feelings and emotion are real, the earth you stand on is real, YOU ARE REAL, God simply is not real and we have no need to continue this selfish pursuit of getting ourselves into heaven. take a step back and appreciate what we’re already blessed with (REALITY)

Imagine theres no countries, It isn't hard to do. Nothing to kill or die for, And no religion too. Imagine all the people liveing for the world.
I hope some day you will join us and the world will be as one. (john lennon)

If one person causes you to lose faith in God (even through mis-repensentation) you are hell bound by baptist doctrine, for it would be said you had no faith-you would be eaten by the thorns. (see the parable)

If one quits believing because of the actions of a criminal than that is much more forgivable than waking up one day and saying "I don't believe anymore". When it is a person in religious authority than it is that much easier to forgive. Obviously the pedophile will have much to answer for later on.

If sin is not measured how is one sin more forgivable than another or are Sins numerated greater to lessor?

God is a merciful God. He knows how to reach us even through the worst trauma. God knows all, therefore he can heal and restore better than any one can. I know a woman who was, as a child, abused by some one who attends the same church she now attends as a adult. God has shown her how to separate that person and what they did to her as a child from her relationship with God. She draws closer to God because he is her source of strength from a difficult past. What an awesome God - able to work through the deepest of pains to allow us to enter into his eternal comfort and love!
