Yeah, why not? I'm of the belief that God's a lot happier when he's not micromanaging his children's lives. If the two of you want children, God will probably say "Alright, I see that you want kids. You seem ready. I'm going to help you prepare and then we'll get you some kids." If they don't want children, I doubt God's going to go all RARR HULK SMASH on them. A couple tends to know if they're ready. I don't see it as something you should just leave up to God. It takes more planning than that if it's to be done right.

If you asked this question a hundred years virtually every Christian would give a resounding, "NO!".

What makes you think you can mutilate the aspects of sex that was given to you by God? Procreation came with sex, it is not a separate package you can throw out because you want a new car or a bigger house.

If God wanted you to be able to have sex and remove the procreative aspect of it completely, why didn't He separate sex and procreation?

Is there a Biblical source for this "birth control is bad" stuff I keep hearing?

The only thing I can think of is Onan's story, but to me, it seems that Onan was not punished for the act itself of "pulling out." He was punished because he disobeyed a specific order from God--that is, to get his dead brother's wife pregnant. I doubt many Christians are finding themselves in that situation today.

I never understood the whole "Sex is for procreation only" argument. I mean, a thousand years ago when the earth needed populating, sure, but now? We do not need more people on this planet. Besides, if God wanted people to only have sex when they wanted a baby, I don't think he'd have made it so pleasurable, or such an emotional experience. It's as much for bonding with your partner and showing your love for one another as it is for making babies.

I don't think birth control was much of an issue 2000+ years ago.

The argument isn't that sex is for procreation only. The issue is deliberately trying to separate procreation completely from sex.

Due to medical conditions, I have not been able to have children since I was 26. I do not believe God intends my husband and I to be celibate until death does us part. But I think Ive deviated from the OP, sorry.

Well, what's wrong with separating procreation from sex when you want to have sex but don't want to procreate yet?

Don't have sex unless you are ready for kids. You can end up in a lot of trouble playing games with sex, as birth control is not 100% effective.

I don't think anyone here has argued you shouldn't have sex unless your goal is to make babies and you are physiologically capable of it. That's an extremely rare viewpoint I haven't heard anyone on CF ever make.

You mean to say that if I got married, but didn't want to have children until I was out of college and had money saved for a bigger house, bigger car, etc that my husband and I shouldn't have sex until then, not even on our wedding night?
