U.S. Religious Knowledge Quiz

Just for fun. Putting it here because I wanted to see responses, not just to who knew what, but to the quiz itself. I got 14 out of 15 correct, but I have to say that the quiz was not particularly relevant to me. I felt more attention was given to religious movements than to faith.

Married people, especially, do you find yourselves thinking that the loss of faith many experience is because they read things that are more concerned with the nature of religious movements than of actual faith and the teachings of Christ? How do we address the secularization of religion with our spouses, children, etc?

Have fun with the quiz, post your scores if you care to, and add your thoughts.

I got 11 out of 15, which didn't surprise me - I'm not super knowledgeable about world religions.

I do think that people focus too much on movements and trends and not enough on relationship and teachings. We are currently attending a reformed church, which helps to address a lot of the issues of secularization of religion on a foundational level for our family. It will eventually become the basis from which we compare/contrast other religions/denominations and their practices with our children (as they grow old enough to understand).

Nice high scores...but does anyone, especially those who taught HS and Uni Comparative Religion and/or World Religion have any thoughts about how the teaching of "religion" differs from the teaching of "faith"...I'd especially like to see comments about your students' responses, if known, to those classes.

I found it interesting that students who had apparently been Christians all their lives had
1. Little understanding of the origins and central ideas of Christianity
2. Little understanding of the real and most important differences between Christianity and say Islam or Buddhism
3. Very spotty understanding of the history of Christianity, including the creation of the New Testament as a whole, the origins of the Nicene Creed, and worst of all little understanding that nearly 50% of Christian history took place in the Middle Ages.
4. But most interesting was a poor knowledge of the contexts in which the Bible was written. For example that it helps to know about King Hezekiah to understand some of the Prophet Isaiah, or the parallels between some of Paul's Epistles and the Book of Acts.

I think that knowing the heart of faith requires us to know scripture well. While it is true that there can be enormous insight into God's love and so on without it, scripture is vital, from my perspective.

Thank you! I include Scripture and Tradition as it applies to us, personally, in what I was describing as "teaching faith". My own definition of "teaching religion" is a bit more to do with some of the facts in the Quiz...for example WHO led the Reformation, rather than the BELIEFS presented by the Reformation.

I also got 15 out of 15. I lived in the international dorm in college and was exposed to students of many faiths which is, I guess, why I have a little more knowledge than others possibly. Also, as to the two SC questions, I knew that because as a home schooler with the local public school district, I have to be very careful about what curriculum I use. I won't say more for fear of giving too much away.

14 out of 15.

I got the Jewish Sabbath wrong. . . I guess I never understood it because I thought the Jewish Sabbath was on Saturday.

Or is it Sundown Friday night to Sundown Saturday night?

Anyways got the rest right.
