Well where should I start?
Perhaps right at the beginning, we were married 35 years ago, we have two wonderful children who are themselves married with a child each.
My wife Helen was a wonderful wife and mother she gave out so much unconditional love to her family and friends, she really walked the walk and talked the talk.
Seven years ago Helen was diagnosed with a rare disease called Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, 2 years later she underwent a very successful double lung transplant 100% match on all criteria. All went well for two years until it was found she had a form of pneumonia which damaged her new lungs, she then had a cancer taken off her face, it was suggested that she had either ovarian or cervical cancer which proved to be dermoid cysts, so after a total hysterectomy Helen resumed life as best she could, 12 months later she was diagnosed with swine flu which devastated her lungs even more. In 2012 was told that another transplant would not be possible due to her overall condition she faced the prospect of death head on in the last week of her life she ticked all the boxes of what she wanted done, she never complained about what was happening, she looked forward to entering heaven because she knew where she was going friends family and medical staff all commented on how calm and peaceful Helen was in that last week before she died. She lapsed into unconciousness at approx 2 pm Saturday and passed way at 5 minutes past midnight on Saturday night. Her funeral was a joyous celebration of a life well lived, the church was filled to overflowing with many following the hearse to the cemetery. I can definitely say that I entertained an angel unawares. Galatians 5: 5-6 says so much
Galatians 5:5-6 (NLT) 5 But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive by faith the righteousness God has promised to us. 6 For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.
On reflection I am sad I miss her so very much but I know where and with whom she is now living with a brand new body etc. I cannot say as to what God will call me to do with the rest of my life. I promised Helen that I would do my level best to be positive and cheerful often, with tears sometimes.
A dear friend gave me a book named "My Companion through Grief" and I have looked up "Wordsearch Biblical Counselling Library" great information about grief written in plain english. My life is not what I had hoped for but I am looking forward to what is to come in the future. As you read this brief text about where life took Helen and I please be encouraged by
2 Corinthians 1:2-7 (NLT) 2 May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. 3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 5 For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. 6 Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer. 7 We are confident that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in the comfort God gives us.
