Am I correct with my observation that there are TWO KINDS of listeners to our Lord in:
Joh 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
First -- The Jews relying on their own understanding:
Joh 2:20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
Second -- The DISCIPLES. They did "not lean unto their own understanding" but waited for our Lord to expound, more specifically demonstrated, the meaning of His words:
Joh 2:21 But he spake of the temple of his body.
Joh 2:22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
Can we not see the reason why today people cannot agree on the TRUTH in the word because like the Jews they rely on their own understanding of the word?
The Roman Catholic Church claims the truth
Jehovah's Witnesses claim the truth
etc., etc.
Are not people violating the edict in the following?
Jer 17:5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
Prov 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
I am just thinking why people cannot agree on the truth. I suppose everybody is after the TRUTH.
What is your comment?
