Perhaps Tucker’s fears would be eased if the US monetary system was switched back to the Imperial......12 pennies to the shilling, 20 shillings to the pound, etc.....?

We ditched that back in 1792.

Before the US is able convert to metrics, it must first understand that there is a difference between a metre and a meter.
OB

The difference, for us, is one is how we spell meter here in the U.S. and metre is how they spell it in Canada.

We also don't spell center, color or check as centre, colour or cheque either.

There you go, definitive evidence that Tucker Carlson supports Imperialism.

I'm Aussie and grew up with the metric system, but I still cant get around height in anything but feet & inches and engine power in anything but horsepower and ft/lbs.

The metric system just works better for nearly everything else though. So much more elegant.

Its not just Canada that uses metre. The Brits use it, NZ uses it, we use it. The US may be the only country using meter as spelling for the unit of measurement.

Centre/center, color/colour are spelling variants for the same concept. Outside of the US, a metre and a meter are two different things.

A metre is a unit of length while, for the rest of us, a meter is a measuring gauge - as in water meter or gas meter or parking meter.

(Cheque and check also have two different, unique meanings in the non-American English world.)

I mean Tucker has always been a loathsome and shameless propagandist, but trying to link up the metric system with the evils of the french revolution is really rather stupid.

Calling it inelegant is amazingly stupid.

It would be trivial if it didn't work on people. You can be anti-academia without trying to be dishonest.

Sometimes I wonder if Tucker is engaging in performance art... and then I remember that this is Tucker we're talking about.

I hope he is getting paid large sums of money to deceive the public, and secretly hates what he does but loves the money and fame as a substitute for the emptiness that may be inside.

I don't have a problem with the ignorance and prejudice as long as it is honest. However, he acts as if he doesn't know the magnitude of his prejudice and ignorance (despite his education) - which is deceptive. If he really believes himself, there may be a bigger psychological problem.

So best case scenario is that he is a performance artist/shill/disinformation agent/controlled opposition. If that is the case, we can take it as it is - entertainment, and insight into what is expected of the demographic that watches.

Ashamed? No.

Imposing unnecessary expense by using a different unit of measure than the rest of the world? Stupid.

Propaganda is used precisely because it works so well.

The label anti-academia seems overly broad.

Advancing ideas like the metric system and an actual understanding of the french revolution and propaganda in general are all things that more scholarship would help with not less.

You also have to know just enough truth to mix in with your lies to be an effective propaganda artist like Tucker is right there, he is simply using his scholarship to promote an anti-academic viewpoint to advance whatever his agenda is at the moment.

So he's actually bastardizing both sides of that particular fence.

Yes... I am being broad as a hope that that is all it is.

I know learned people in academia that despise the metric system, and go on tangential political rants about its alleged detriment. It is a possibility.

I hope that he isn't what I think is. But, I also cant care if he is what he is, and is taking people.

I'm sorry, but I really didn't need the line drawings and the finger puppets. I'm fully aware that other Commonwealth countries use British English spellings as I am fully aware of what a meter (BE) is. I was kidding when I limited my comment to Canada by creating a national dichotomy (us down here, them up there).
