  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You're only amazed because you expected something different.

Personally speaking, after years of encountering the kind of people @dgiharris mentioned in his previous post and witnessing firsthand so many of them disparage entire groups of marginalized people, I'm honestly not surprised by the apathetic attitude we have seen in this thread.

Surely you've heard the verse which reads "Know ye, inasmuch as you do for the White, American, and Republican among you, you do for me."

I also referred to Jesus' parable of the Sheep and the Goats earlier in this thread.

You must be referring to Barack Hussein Obama. Trump's looking to be the most pro-Christian president we've had in awhile.
Trump supporters are looking like the most gullible population we've had in a long while.

Most Pro-Christian POTUS? bwahahhahaha okay he may be pandering to Christians but he isn't one.

Bush was a better Pro Christian President then Trump and that wasn't too long ago.

Obama was by far much more Christian then Trump hands down.
There's a difference between sucking up to something and being pro something.

First, I---shudder--- agree with President Trump that Congress needs to deal with this matter.

Second, common sense. These people came as minors. Minors are not typically held accountable for laws broken by their parents.

Third. America gave jobs to the parents.

So, considering any Biblical or moral principle we owe these dreamers a shot at legal status that an EO cannot undo.

The demise of this program could be of huge benefit to Canada. These are young people who are already motivated, can speak English well, a great many have university or college or trades education and they already know the realities of North American employment. They could be of immense benefit to Canada and one Canadian government minister has already suggested that we be prepared to accept as many as 30,000. For the sake of these people I sincerely hope that they are not deported. That would be an immense tragedy. But if the worst should happen this could be a very good thing for Canada and for those who choose to come here.

I'm pleased to see Canada will charitably accept these young people. I don't know if Canadian citizens consider Canada to be a Christian nation or not, but its government seems to be showing some Christian charity in this sad and very unfortunate circumstance.

Over the last few years, I have come to conclude that Canada as a whole demonstrates American values better than the United States.

Like the USA, Canada was founded as a secular democracy by a largely Christian population. We have largely managed to avoid the sectarian religious hatreds and have grown to become a very multicultural, multiracial and multireligious democracy.

I agree with you. The EO left these poor kids vulnerable, because there was no law in sight. These can be removed by Trump - or any other President in the future. We must do something permanent. I never did understand WHY the past administration made promises when there was no guarantee they could keep them. I always found that cruel, because it was false sense of hope that they had no power to give. Stupid politics over reality. A law is the only way to do this in order to keep the promises - the intended ones or others - that actually have the power to keep them.

Congress makes the laws. It's their responsibility to do this, and everyone has been 'promising' this for a long as I can remember. This is NOT fair to anyone - citizens or these kids/young adults that took part in DACA. It's just not. They will be forever in limbo, unless Congress acts. Enough of the whining and name calling - step up or get the heck out of the way for others to get this done. It always starts with - and ultimately ends with - they presented us with a non-starter and we are done. Both sides have done this, and both sides are responsible. Enough with drama - DO YOUR JOB!! Stop holding your breath until you turn blue, and step up for these kids. Claiming you CARE doesn't do them any good. It's as good as a glass with a hole in the bottom. It just doesn't hold water.

and as usual Obama speaks like an intelligent man.

DACA will now be approved by Congress. Obama's solution was a temporary one. In the end, there will probably be some border control money along with DACA approval. While money for a wall is a waste of money, it may need to be approved. IMHO, such funding really does not HURT anything. Texas won't be building a high wall. They will use the money for improvements, and completion of projects long on the books.

Compassion and feeling are a great basis to build a relationship with your significant other.
When it comes to building a country, the foundation of any policy must be based in law rather than compassion.

Reporting based on narrative stirs up all the right feelings. But if feelings are deemed to be more important than laws, then it is lawlessness that prevails.
There is nothing fair about that. In the end, there is nothing compassionate about that either. Compassion for those cheating the system is indifference to the people that are being cheated by those gaming the system.

I'll go a step further and say that Congress needed to address this originally, but they didn't.
Donald's going to try to portray himself as a hero by forcing -- via ultimatum -- Congress to finally address this issue... assuming they do.

If they do, he'll claim credit for himself, which of course, his followers will gladly give him.

"Us"? "Them"?

Am I missing something here..? Are children who are born in the US citizens or not...?
The OP isn't referring to children born in the US, who are indeed US citizens according to the 14th Amendment. It's referring to illegal immigrants who came to this country when they were under 18 years old.

Care to talk about why DACA is so problematic for the U.S.?
