Maybe I should base my Christianity on works instead of faith to accommodate your opinion, yet that wouldnt suffice me. The quandary?

Neither Gillard or Abbot to my understanding, are or ever have been Christian, nor the majority of Australias voting public.
Again I dont see how a small minority has the right to dictate to the majority, on this issue or any other, even within the bounds of party politics.

I notice you call yourself a Christian and yet support a party that places the earth and animals above human life. A party that suggests mankind should serve the planet, completely contrary to to the Gospel that teaches Jesus is Savior and the only truth, and we are here to serve and honor him by furthering His Gospel.
Yes, His Gospel, that will cause derision even in His church.

I wont preach what I believe at you, I am just suggesting that your opinion is based on a minority view.
I want to highlight the hypocritical nature of your preaching in light of your support for the Greens.
Now I know this will make you angry and I am truly sorry for that.

Julia Gillard has to "supposedly" implement the policy of the Australian people, not small minoritys.
Actually no they are supposed to govern for waht is in the best interests of the country. What the majority want and what is in the best interests of people are not always the same thing. It never ceases to amaze me when everyone votes for the party that offers the biggest tax cut and then wonders why health and education budgets are being cut. I keep thinking surely people aren't stupid enough that they will fall for it a second time.

Refugees are not considered welcome by Australias majority, refugees who arrive on boats are seen as cue jumpers, so are not looked on with compassion. I understand her and as such the Liberals position. It is neither a disgrace or complex.
Well we should stop being a bunch of hypocrites then. We should follow the example of the USA and remove ourselves as a signatory to the Internation Declaration on Human Rights. We should stop telling other countries to respect human rights if we are not going to follow them. The international community already laughs at us and points to our wrongs when we try to tell them to clean up their act. Perhaps you could explain this though BTW. how does an individual go to the Australian Embassy or Consulate in their country and apply to immigrate if there is no office in their country? Next you will be telling me prisoners get it easy in jails and live a life of luxury! I know firsthand what the conditions in jail are like and what the guards often feel (except the guards who are only there for the power trip)

What is a disgrace, the carbon tax that the majority of Australians have rejected.
That alone garners Abbot the support and popularity he deserves.
The majority of Australians have not been asked for their opinion. Opinion polls are often run with a view to what the wanted result is. That is if you want to run a poll showing people are not in favour of a carbon tax then go to the mining communities and ask their opinion. nobody has ever asked for my opinion. If the majority are against it then you would think that with all the different polls run on the topic i would have been asked at least once.

Both labor and liberals suck badly so I picked something else when I joined. There are things I dont like about the greens but of the three its not much of a choice. i wish there was something else!

I dont care what anyone thinks.. I am firm in my beliefs treating a fellow person with compassion anyone can do..

WA's got it right where it comes to poker machines. I admire Wilkie for taking a stand against pokies. He is the one independent I would vote for. Four Corners - Wilkie's Gamble

I have heard a few times that there are far more pokie machines in poorer areas as well.

Well picking the Greens probably reflects poorly in my view.
Maybe the Christian Democrats or Family First could have suggested a less than hypocritical position.
Let the Babys die but bring in refugees, doesnt win a compassionate argument.
Just as a side note. I contacted my local member of Parliament to voice my view re Gillards policy on immigration, I wonder how many others did the same?

yes Politics sucks, my vote is with Jesus. A name I never tire of hearing or saying
I live because he died for me.

Sounds like how a few Middle eastern dictators applied governing to their respective countrys.
I guess we are blessed with the alternating liberal or laboUr dictatorship here in Aus

Yeah maybe we should, or shouldnt. I dont know. Hell, even I have laugh at us often. I dont see your point.
Actually to be quite frank with you I couldnt care less what the international community thinks of us here.
As for the prisons, dont know and dont care. I have enough to deal with where I am at the moment.

Yeah right..... main stream media liers? Dags are you a tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist??
Or like me do you just know the media manipulate us?
You know what Dags, of all my friends and family, mostly all of them hate cue jumping refugees and even more hate the new Gillard carbon tax, truthfully of all the people I know, I cant think of any who out rightly support the tax as implemented by Gillard.
Of course that is from where I stand, and it could be wrong.

Ah yes the groups that support censorship. Remember the internet filter they tried introducing? you know the one that they said was to stop child porn. Then when wikileaks published the list of banned sites there were very few child porn sites but plenty of political sites. Good ol family first for pushing that idea! Of course the christian democrats wouldrather we live in a dictatorship and be forced to follow their views. Then there is the issue that even though they call themselves the christian democrats they claim they do not stand for christianity but rather family values.

Let the Babys die but bring in refugees, doesnt win a compassionate argument.
Well if you are going to bring this up then you should make it clear what you mean. I'm guessing your talking about abortion but I could be wrong. I agree with the biblical principle that if the life of the mother is threatened (even though that is very unlikely) provision should be made to allow abortion in that case.

I remember that thread. Interesting how a nuymber of points I raised when providing proof that claims made by christian democrats were wrong and had evidence to support the view was not countered (remember they record every word said in parliament)

Ah the argument by ridicule response. If at the end of the day the best thing for the country is to increase taxes then the government should do so. One of the best examples is the good ol famous "recession we had to have" back in the 90's. Bernie Fraser who was then governor of the RBA approached Hawke & Keating and said if we make the recession last longer than it needs to then we can massively reduce inflation. Did the people want the pain of the recession to last longer? I doubt it. Was the best thing for the long term benefit to reduce inflation? Absolutely. Itis not however in the best interests of the people for the government to kill people who disagree with them which is what you sugested I was saying.

Yeah maybe we should, or shouldnt. I dont know. Hell, even I have laugh at us often. I dont see your point.

The point wasn't that we care about what the international community thinks of us but while we want to preach to the international community and tell them how naughty they are then perhaps we should clean up our act. Remember the tampa "crisis". The captain of the boat received a knighthood for his actions while we were saying turn around and go away. Let's try and get some perspective too. What percentage of people coming to australia do so illegally?

Yeah right..... main stream media liers? Dags are you a tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist??
They have found a way around the tinfoil hats. you need to put it in your underwear now!

You know what Dags, of all my friends and family, mostly all of them hate cue jumping refugees and even more hate the new Gillard carbon tax, truthfully of all the people I know,
Could that be due to the previously mentioned manipulating media?

While I have picked a side on the Asylum Seeker issue, that isn't my main problem with Labor and Liberal. I believe we should process them onshore as quickly as possible, and so I do disagree with both their policies (especially Gillard's), however, I am more appalled by the lies that we are all fed via the media. Be scared of these line jumpers! Be scared of these boats! Australia is full! - All of it is a load of rubbish. Let people have an INFORMED opinion by INFORMING them with the TRUTH. The truth is most of the people staying in our country illegally are tourists whos Visas have run out. The truth is a terrorist is more likely to travel by plane. The truth is over 90% of boat people are found to be true refugees. The truth is there is nothing illegal about seeking Asylum. The truth is people don't choose to cross the ocean in an over-crowded little, unsafe boat, they have no other choice. The Asylum seekers who come here by boat shouldn't be punished, maybe the people who brought them here should, but the people on those boats are victims of horrors we can't imagine.

I am a passionate animal lover, and I believe in protecting animals from cruelty, but even I HATE how Australia (fed by the media) was so outraged about the treatment of cattle in Indonesia, but didn't (and don't) care that we were going to do the same things to HUMAN BEINGS by sending them to Malaysia.

I hate that there was a huge outcry to get that Aussie boy out of that Bali prison, yet there are 14 year old boys (and younger) locked up here.

It makes me so mad.

And comparing the Asylum Seeker issue to Abortion?? Really??

As for the Christian Democrats and Family First - mmm maybe Family First, but the Christian Democrats are nut jobs in my opinion. Only people who respect the Christian way of life should be allowed to live in Australia according to them. Can't stand them.

I would really love an election right now. I hate that the Greens have so much power. I like that they're for equality (pfft not that that's done much yet), and the environment, but I don't think the Carbon Tax is the right way to go about it. I think initiatives would work better.

Hmm sais BTW in a deep Mike Moore pose (frontline)
I dont control the government, I lament it. All sides of it, yes even FF and the CD.
People who put their respective faiths in politics are people placing their faiths in men.
I dont care about the RBA or Tampa, inflation or even the carbon tax. (Though that Japanese tsunami Nuclear power leak is scary)
I am commenting on posts I am reading, I am adding my Christian perspective on a Christian website.

Dags the CARBON TAX is not "Just a Tax". Comparing the two is absurd. Gillard has become a dictator and ignored the Australian people and their opinion. SHE LIED. she said it was OFF the agenda befor the election.
The suggestion that this is a ridicule based response is ridiculous and shameful on your behalf.

I dont support Liberal Labour or the greens, or any of the Christian based partys. I am just commenting that I think Gillard is a disgrace and a lying dictator.
I am commenting on others opinion, I am trying to remain neutral. I have an agenda.
Jesus is returning very soon...Repent. Yes me included.

I could never understand how when you need to fix something a tax is a solution. a solution wil fix problems better than redistributing wealth.

We asked our government to help reduce pollution. Thier response, make it unpleasant for us so we stop asking.

Nothing gets fixed as usual, and they still get that big pension. Problem solved.

BTW sorry you don't understand how comparing our style of government to a dictatorship sounds like argument by ridicule. When you say that in response to my claim that government is supposed to do what is best for the people and country not just what is popular is ridiculing it. Dictatorships don't operate in the best interests of the country unless of course it is Lord Vetinari (terry pratchett charachter) who wishes to be a likeable dictator.

i haven't watched frontline for ages perhaps it is time to dig it out and have a good laugh.

You will laugh, though mostly cringe. Frontline portrays our media so well.
Dags, the way I see our country run at the moment, and its not just under Julia, is comparative to a dictatorship.
Thats just the way I see it.
My understanding of a democracy is not party politics. Not the government telling those elected how they must vote.
I am at a loss to understand how all the labor party bench sitters, ignore their constituents. Do as they are told.
Politicians dont serve us as they are supposed to, they serve themselves or something else.

I watched every episode of frontline when it was on tv and purchased a few videos. I really should burn them to DVD so I can keep watching them.

The way the party syatem works may be similar to a dictatorship but i personally would not say the government system is. Remember if the public didn't care about a party looking divided they would not have to put so much effort into making it look united. that is why most of the independants who hold power have left the coalition. Try watching Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister and that shows how the system operates.

Go to the local public library they will have them.
my collection is bigger than the local library. what annoys me about the library is that they have the case for an entire season but only one disc. While I can understand only lending out one disc at a time they don't actually have the rest of the discs in the catalogue so they don't actually have them. Rather annoying.

Neither major party is interesting or stimulating right now.

I used to be interested in politics, today I just change channels or turn the page over.

If they processed refugee applications sooner, they would not be in limbo and get desperate and damage themselves or public property. Desperate people do desperate things. They have nothing to lose.

It's a bit of a red herring manipulated by the government and opposition media spin doctors.

90% of illegal immigrants arrive by plane on a legal visa and just overstay. We hardly hear anything on the news about them.

Ok now I have heard it all! the paper was saying the the problems with Qantas would have been over if Julia Gillard had returned a phone call! They (Qantas I think it was) must be getting desperate to say something like that. The government does not own the airline anymore. She might try to influence people but she can't force anything to be done.

I am sick of both sides trying to blame each other for issues outside of their control. e.g. Australian private companies' poor decisions.
Lol I bet you would struggle to watch parlaiment on TV for more than 10 minutes. Thats what they do for a living on TV.
