  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Catholic Online (www.catholic.org)

'We cannot get more than 45 pro-life votes in the Senate. The bishops are right, statutory law is better than an executive order. We can´t get there.'

"The criticisms being leveled at Congressman Stupak are not unlike those frequently leveled at Pope Pius XII for his failure to speak out clearly and directly against the Holocaust. Instead he took actions behind the scenes to "limit the harm" done to the Jews of Europe by rescuing many tens of thousands of them, hiding them in convents and monasteries, and secretly transporting them to safety in Spain and America".

But unless and until the Republican Party becomes a party that truly takes seriously the moral necessity and urgency for an adequate social welfare safety net, then all of the "Pro-Life" merits do not lie upon the Republican side of the aisle alone.

No, not exactly right...

But unless and until the Republican Party becomes a party that truly takes seriously the moral necessity and urgency for an adequate social welfare safety net, then MOST of the "Pro-Life" merits do not lie upon the Republican side of the aisle alone.

Well, better...

Oh, let's just tell it like it is. Republican Pro-Life is an oxymoron (and they proved it Sunday.)

And as they have proved over and over again. The Catholic Church has stood with and potected the poor, the sick, the immigrant, and the prisoner for hundreds of years. The Catholic Church has stood for providing pre-natal care, care for young mothers, and support for adoptions for generations. The Catholic Church is against capital punishment and was opposed to the War In Iraq. The Church tends to pacificist, but this is not an absolute. There are times when force is supported. The Catholic Church of Mother Teresa understood all these things. These are ALL life issues.

The Catholic Church used to understand that being pro-life means more than wanted to reduce the number of abortions and to restrict the rights of homosexuals.

With regard to party, Jesus is neither a Democrat or a Republican. However, which party is more able to respond to Jesus. So many, many Catholic, including bishops, have told us that it is the Republicans. I pray for the gift of discernment for us all.

Matthew 25:33-40 (New American Standard Bible)

33and He will put the sheep (A)on His right, and the goats (B)on the left.
34"Then the King will say to those on His right, 'Come, you who are blessed of My Father, (C)inherit the kingdom prepared for you (D)from the foundation of the world.
35'For (E)I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; (F)I was a stranger, and you invited Me in;
36(G)naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you (H)visited Me; (I)I was in prison, and you came to Me.'
37"Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink?
38'And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You?
39'When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' 40"(J)The King will answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, (K)to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.'

The new vote was merely on wording having to do with the education pell grants portion, which was attached to the health-care bill.

I think it was ridiculous to attached this bill to the health care bill, but Congress, regardless of which party controls it, does this sort of thing all the time.

I'm sorry Jim

WE (that is the pro-life crowd) are enabling these craziods.

WE don't turn them in, don't reign them in and make excuses for them when they burn stuff, bomb things and kill people. ("WE don't endorce violdence, but WE understand the underlying anger". "People are angry, and rightly so, with the holocaust of the unborn and their murdering doctors, but WE feel that killing is wrong...", etc)

WE're reponsible, at least in part, for this.

And lets face it Jim, about 3/4 of the pro-life crowd wishes in had the guts to do this stuff. Scott Roeder has websites dedicated to his heroic, just and justifed murder of George Tiller. He sells his charcoal sketches on the internet to pro-life groups.

No, its us.

We make hero's of the harassers, the bomber, the arsonists and the killers.

Which is why I stopped supporting so-called pro-life crowds years ago.

They became nasty in their rhetoric and actions.

I wonder how the crazoids feel they are incentivizing politicians to become more pro-life.

When those who usually vote pro-choice see how viciously they turn on their supporters if they deviate ever so slightly from the pro-life's main position (i.e. it is better to let health care die in Congress for another twenty years rather than pass a bill which a small number of analysts express vague reservations about) they will never be motivated to vote pro-life.

They don't think at all.

These are people moving on instinct and emotion.

That's the reptilian part of the human brain.

This, apparently, is the best defense the unborn have.

Man, that's sad.
