In love I will say God doesn't cost anything. Jesus is free. The word tithe is not mentioned one time in the new testatment. I believe if the church is struggling yes we should help the church but, if it's a church that says before I will help you I must look to see how much tithes you have paid into the church then I believe we are moving away from the whole concept of what Church Should Be. I pray for all including myself. God gave the Church so then He will maintain it. And we don't have to ask over and over again in each service for people to pay their tithes.. I promise they will not do it and later it will bite you.. Keep The Faith in The Lord and Tell The Lord- You Gave Me This Church So I know You Will Maintain it... Glory To God! Only Said In Love and Nothing More Than That.

The Church is there to help and to love all that come to it. Stay Blessed!

I agree with you that giving should be a matter of choice, not legalistic obligation. I also agree that the Church's generosity should not be contingent on a person's willingness or ability to give to the Church.

However, it is simply not true that the NT does not discuss tithing. Tithing is discussed by Jesus and by the author of Hebrews (see Matthew 23:23, Luke 11:42, and Hebrews 7:1-10). Tithing remains something that we should do because we are grateful to God, but like everything, it is not something that we have to do out of legalistic obligation.

Of course you don't have to tithe, and you shouldn't feel you are required to. However, for me, when I started to understand the tithe, I wanted to tithe:
Who wouldn't want that? Moreover, I don't want to steal from God:
Mal 3:8 said:
... you rob and defraud Me ... [You have withheld your] tithes and offerings.
Taking something that isn't yours to take, something God told you not to take. Isn't that where all our problems began? (see Gen 3:7)

Out of Fear of Men I didn't want to write but, pushed forward and wrote it anyway..

Tithe doesn't get you into heaven. God loves his children and know his children and have a calling for his children. The things his children will impact and change will be done spiritually. Because we can not do anything with out God! Nothing at all.. I respect everyone's opinion but, I just needed to say it so therefore I have done my part and that's all that was asked of me or anyone else do what you are asked to..

Stay Blessed!

Ya, tithe isn't a requirement of the church. Abram gave his tithe from his desire not from a law. Isreal had a law to obey. The church has no law about tithing to obey.

So we give because we want to and according to how the Holy Spirit leds us.

Tithes may not be a requirement, but it is a necessity to maintain a church building, for paying utility bills and more.
Of course, one could argue that buildings, utility bills and the like could be saved by holding services out in the open, just like Jesus Christ did, or didn't he?
