I think something that would have helped me early on in the game is learning the usefulness of the Auction House. The AH can be your greatest way to make money or it can ruin you. Find what sells on your server and sell it. Generally taking a gathering profession say mining can help you start with some gold early on in the game. I once made a lowbie character on some random server with a friend and at lvl 20 or so I was up to 15g from just selling stacks of copper bars by using the AH. For greater income get skinning or herbalism with minning and just sell it all for a good price. You can only have two professions so if you do take two gathering professions you wont be able to make much of anything.

Do not I repeat do not buy low lvl gear from the AH it can get pricy and you usually get some nice starting gear from instances and you can even out lvl the gear you buy very quickly in the start.

Pick up everything that drops off of mobs. Grey, white and green items will go to the vendor and make you some early level money. If a blue item drops, and it's bind on equip, this means you can sell it. www.thottbot.com can tell you the auction house prices for specific items, always check thottbot to see what something is worth, people on WoW can be merciless to new players when it comes to ripping them off. They will tell you that something isn't worth what you are asking so that they can sell it for the right price and make profit, do not listen to them, check thottbot.

I've gotten so dang bored with that game. There are a ton of bots, not many lower level newbs so its hard to find a group; most of the lower levels are experienced players and already have people helping them out. I love group hunting but if you like to solo then its a good game. Me, it wore out quick, takes too much time to do anything and you have to pay a monthly fee. Bleh

Horde rocks your socks. Its as simple as that.

Nazul was right about the AH, though. I'd suggest joining a guild that specializes in instances and raids... that way you can go on daily instances such as (to start with) Ragefire Chasm, then working into Wailing Caverns, then Shadowfang Keep, etc.... I have twinked my character with all the items I've picked up from instances. Sell any green items on the AC - but check the price of them first. Again, any blue items that are bind on equip - SELL them! I sold a gun for 20g (and was SO proud of myself) and to me, thats a lot of money. Its just waiting around for the right drops to come along.

As for professions, I'd go with a gathering one almost certainly. Gather everything you can, and if you cant use it, it sells for a mint on the AH. Herbalism is a good one to go with. You can go with two gathering professions, but thats just boring. Go for a creating one too. Just make sure its not one thats going to make you broke. Like engineering.

Race and Class I cant help you with, sorry. Except Smexy Blood Elves!!! they make good mages, apparently.

and I've only been playing for a month total, and I have a lvl 30 and a lvl 24.

If you choose a healing class, like for example priest, then you will be pretty much guaranteed to get groups as you level up, and then also good gear from the dungeons.

If you want a good money flow you should pick mining and skinning and sell what you gather at the auction house.

And I don't know how it is like on US servers, but on european ones the horde always win in PVP, so if you like PVP and hate loosing then don't even think about picking a alliance character.

Tips for newbies:

1. Roll Alliance. Horde is full of ugly races, and emo players (belfs).
2. For your first toon roll a Hunter. Easy Mode. (Go Dwarf imo)
3. Use the Auction House, get to know the Auction House
4. Pick two Gathering profs: Mining & Skinning
5. Look for a guild with mature players and stick with them. Don't guild hop.
6. Use an online leveling Guide: Google: Jame's Guide
7. Play your own sex, drag queens are confusing.

LOL
2. For your first toon roll a Hunter. Easy Mode. (Go Dwarf imo)
Just don't be a huntard. Warriors rock.
3. Use the Auction House, get to know the Auction House
Get the addon auctioneer... learn it... love it.
4. Pick two Gathering profs: Mining & Skinning
Get the addon Gatherer. When you get a good amount of money drop one of your gathering profs and get either leatherworking (if you dropped mining) or blacksmithing (if you dropped skinning)
5. Look for a guild with mature players and stick with them. Don't guild hop.
Very important, don't beg people to help you, it's irritating. Just because someone has hit the max level in the game doesn't mean they have nothing to do and can help you all day. That said, if you ask for help and you never get any... find another guild.
6. Use an online leveling Guide: Google: Jame's Guide
Use wowhead/wowwikki/thottbot for help too. Get the addon, lightheaded for help questing, also questhelper.
7. Play your own sex, drag queens are confusing.
LOL True.
