Jesus said

Matthew 5:32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery.

Now the thing is that divorces are very common nowadays, not only among the heathens but also among christian, SDAs are no exception here...

Now I know an SDA whose wife has left him and filed for divorce, of course the marriage wasnt without problems (miscarriages etc.), anyways, he was shattered to pieces... his ex-wife met another man (I think that was after the divorce but I could be wrong here). THe new guy was a catholic and they married lateron...

Now how about it? is this second marriage of hers an adulterous relationship, are both of them committing adultery? are they living in perpetual sin? What could they do? Does simply asking God for forgiveness change anything here? because if we ask for forgiveness of our sins we should at least try and want to stop sinning, marriage seems something different? would divorce and living in loneliness be the answer here...

what does egw say on the subject?

btw

another take

Imagine a couple is married and the wife finds out about the man watching porn, does that count as unfaitfulness??

besides

Jesus speaks only about a man who could divorce his wife, I know that the times back then were different but we also say that Gods statutes last forever... so, would the same principle apply to a woman also, I mean if the husband is unfaithful is she allowed to divorce her husband in regard to biblical standards?

There is also a provision for when an unbeliever leaves the marraige contract, it nullifies it. It sounds like in this situation that she would be considered an unbeliever.

1 Cor 7:12-15
But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.

And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him.

For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.
But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.

Still Married in God's Sight, Although Divorced.-- A woman may be legally divorced from her husband by the laws of the land and yet not divorced in the sight of God and according to the higher law. There is only one sin, which is adultery, which can place the husband or wife in a position where they can be free from the marriage vow in the sight of God. Although the laws of the land may grant a divorce, yet they are husband and wife still in the Bible light, according to the laws of God. {AH 344.2}
I saw that Sister _____, as yet, has no right to marry another man; but if she, or any other woman, should obtain a divorce legally on the ground that her husband was guilty of adultery, then she is free to be married to whom she chooses. {AH 344.3}
Separation From an Unbelieving Companion.--If the wife is an unbeliever and an opposer, the husband cannot, in view of the law of God, put her away on this ground alone. In order to be in harmony with the law of Jehovah, he must abide with her unless she chooses of herself to depart.

Matt 5:28
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.[/quote]

so from what I understand here is that once a woman leaves her husband she is called an unbeliever... OK... unbeliever or not, it would sound logical to call her new marriage adultery... that is if she still believed in Christ, which I think she does...

now I understand that lust/adultery is interconnected... but then wouldnt that give grounds to divorces for all?

I havent been married as of yet, so I cant really put myself into the situation... personally I see a difference between a lustful look and straight unfaithfulness...

not wanting to argue about it though... it was just some ideas...
