Brothers and Sisters,

Now that Bush has won, and the Republicans control both the House and the Senate, I believe this is a pivotal four years for us who have labored for about fourty years to overturn Roe v. Wade. Bush will probably elect conservative judges, and we can get laws passed to ban the abominations of abortion, embryonic stem cell research, etc.

This is a window for us - we must pray and fight like never before. This country may yet be saved from God's wrath.

Julivert,

God is abundant in mercy, but his mercy is being tried.

We as Catholics may believe in several Private Revelations which seem to indicate that God is not pleased, especially with our present age. Through conversion of heart, we may yet avoid God's punishment.

The US is a good country by our standards, but a man-made country nonetheless. It will be destryoed, like all other secular countries, at the coming of the eternal kingdom of God.

I didn't know Catholics believed that. This nation is the leader of all countries. We defend the poor and the weak. We are where the church is found, where the promised land is for all gentiles until the coming of the rapture.

We are strong. God's light shines upon this country and blesses it as we do God's work in the world. This is why I am against the U.N. If the world doesn't want to follow Christ, then I say abandon them. You are either with us or against us.

I'm sure that you didn't mean to suggest that God's church only exist's in America...or did you ?

All countries belong to God, not just the U.S.

I guess that is the thing about Catholics (Universal) The Church is everywhere, not just in America.

I would be very careful about labeling who is 1st in regards to being Christian, I recall something about the 'first shall be last'

contraceptives are mainstream
materialism is rampamt
divorce is commonplace
the death penalty is encouraged
the environmental is ignored
and Christ's name is to many simply a word you say in curse.

Many of the Islamic countries are doing better than America and UK.

God's number 1 is clearly The Vatican City.

But boy do I hope and pray that America turns itself around. Our Lady spoke about a great chastisement that could still be avoided- perhaps there is a chance we are going to do that...

This is probably America's last chance to do something about abortion before God does something to us.

Israel is God's Country. Always has been and always will be.

Slowly the world, including America, has been turning away from God and His Word. We are giving in to the world when we should be giving up ourselves to God.

Look at the turmoil in the churches right now. Homosexual Bishops, lesbian ministers, pedophiles, sexual predators. It's in all of the churches. Ministers and, yes, some priests, saying abortion is acceptable.

The world is running amok and at some point God will say "Enough" and His Justice will come down on us, as well as His Mercy. We can only pray that people wake up and see what is happening and turn back to God.

hey, hey, hey...let us not underestimate the Latin American countries . Divorce and contraception aren't super rampant there. Mexico is doing very good considering their 'Americanization' that is leading them towards treating Christmas like the US does, etc.. Especially since they are still overcoming that communistic government stuff (is communistic a word?)

I don't 'Blame America First' but that doesn't stop me from recognizing it's bad influences and what we should strive for. I also wouldn't put one country over another in being 'God chosen' I believe all people are chosen by God.

(P.S. that doesn't make me anti-American)

God's country? We've sat back and allowed 44 million babies to be slaughtered in the last 50 years. America is a good country, but believing that we're God's country? No. This is God's earth.

All the world is God's country. He loves all people equally.

I think Irenaeus is right. We dodged a bullet last night but this administration may be our last chance to turn this country around and invite God back into our society.

Let's pray for a real Christian revival!

I am as patriotic as can be but there is a difference between Patriotism and Jingoism.

If there is anything the history of Protestant experiments in theocracy and the words of the Church Fathers teach us, is that the Cities of Man are never completely conformed to the will of God - but that the City of God lives with the City of Man; the leaven that leavens the nations, the salt that makes the earth taste of the savor of God. It would be grossly overestimating human nature to declare a whole nation "God's nation."

We aren't called the Church militant for nothing. Now is the time to march.

Some words from St. John Chrysostom:

It is a contest, this life present: if so, to fight is our business now: it is war and battle. In war one does not seek to have rest, in war one does not seek to have dainty living, one is not anxious about riches, one's care is not about a wife then: one thing only he looks at, how he may overcome his foes. Be this our care likewise: if we overcome, and return with the victory, God will give us all things.
