The Victory is the answer to scripture's call for us to surrender our sins to Christ, to offer our whole hearts and to experience uninterrupted (or continuous) victory over all intentional sin in our lives. Like I've mentioned before (in two places, actually), I've studied with the Creation SDAs. While I've chosen not to leave the SDA Church, I am certainly holding on to this doctrine. It was one of the Pioneer's most precious beliefs, and indeed a major part of the Gospel they preached. Unfortunately, I was never taught this in my own church. I was taught that through Jesus we could have our sins forgiven and become better people, but I had never heard the idea that Jesus could take away all of our sins and keep us from committing them.
"If you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes." Mark 9:23.
"Not one of us will ever receive the seal of God while our characters have one spot or stain upon them. It is left with us to remedy the defects in our characters, to cleanse the soul temple of every defilement. Then the latter rain will fall on us . . . " [5T 214].
"We know that whosoever is born of God does not sin;
but he that is begotten of God keeps himself,
and that wicked one does not touch him." 1 John 5:18.
Holiness is within the reach of all who reach for it by faith, not because of their good works, but because of Christ's merits. Divine power is provided for every soul struggling for the victory over sin and Satan. [Pacific Union Recorder, Feb. 23, 1905, Paragraph 7]
This is not to say that we can do it on our own (righteousness is by faith.. we can not lean on the "arm of flesh") or that we will instantly become perfectly sinless, but I believe that anything is possible "through Christ, who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13
If anyone has any interesting thoughts, please share. I'm compiling an indepth web page on the Victory.
