Is the term "Adventist" an Oxymoron?
We didn't invent anything did we? But perhaps the SDA Church like many others that keep the Sabbath holy just "re-discovered" traditional early church of Christ and follow the King in what he did.
I agree with Esdra.
Speaking about the term "Adventist," all true Christians are adventist in that sense. Apparently you're not referring to the terminology, but the keeping of the biblical seventh-day Sabbath. Of course we didn't invent it. It was rediscovered, but it always existed. There have been groups before us that kept it. The church in the days of the apostles kept it. The Waldenses kept it. The early church in the British Isles, including Ireland, kept it (before Augustine's arrival).
With that said, I'm not sure what you perceive as being oxymoronic, either about the term "Adventist" or about the keeping of the Sabbath.
Sorry, I should have clarifying. Yes I was meaning in terms of keeping the 7th day "Sabbath" as being "invented" is more the word.
I was just pointing out that it isn't and in that sense "Adventist" is not an accurate description of your Church because you keep the original Biblical Sabbath that Jesus and his followers kept, and many before them, and as you point out the Early Church as well before the Church of Rome came along and they moved away from God's Word.

That SDA keep the Sabbath has nothing to do with the term Adventist.
They are called seventh-day a. Because they keep the Sabbath. The term Adventist alone wouldn't indicate that they're a Sabbath keeping church
I'm also a bit confused now.
Right--I was confused too--oxymoron means 2 terms with opposite meanings--such as Honest lawyer--jumbo shrimp--faithful adulterer!!
Those who keep sunday and believe in Christs second coming are 1st day Adventists. All christians, from their start,who believed in His 2nd coming, are Adventists.
And some especially hate to tell of His wonderful love to us as the reason for the delay.We like to tell the world that as adventists we are awaiting the second coming of Christ but we do not like to tell the world why Jesus had to delay His return.
Your quote from Evangelism is only half of what it really says:In 1901 the Spirit of the Lord declared,
"We may have to remain in this world because of insubordination many more years." Ev.696.
sky
We may have to remain here in this world because of insubordination many more years, as did the children of Israel, but for Christ's sake His people should not add sin to sin by charging God with the consequence of their own wrong course of action.--Ev 695, 696 (1901). {LDE 39.1}
What Christ Is Waiting For
Christ is waiting with longing desire for the manifestation of Himself in His church. When the character of Christ shall be perfectly reproduced in His people, then He will come to claim them as His own. {LDE 39.2}
That what you are doing here is wrong and not what Adventists teach. Why you call me "Woody" now all of a sudden is beyond me. I have no idea who you are talking about. You might want to do a little home work yourself before sticking your tongue out.What exactly are you trying to prove Woody?
I am trying to show how you are quoting out of context here; and so far you have not proven me wrong. It is NEVER in context as long as we do not feel the need to base our beliefs on the Bible and Christ-crucified alone.What exactly are you trying to prove Woody?
