I am puzzled by the lack of severity of the sin nature. When Adam and eve sinned they got a sin nature, and God, who is in control, decided what that sin nature would be like. Compared to God's holiness, sin is very bad and God decided that Jesus had to die for our sins. But the sin nature is not so bad that the human race wiped themselves out. Even with this sin nature the human race continued to go on for thousands of years. Hitler and Stalin killed millions, but they didn't come close to wiping out the world. But I could argue that if God would leave this earth, then sin would go unchecked and the people would start killing each other till no one was left. Actually if God would leave this world then the devil would kill every human today. So regarding the severity and consequences of the sin nature, it just feels like humans are puppets on strings controlled by God. I think it might be explained by looking at sin for each person individually. The consequences of sin for an individual is in a way much worse than for a group of people. Like when one person rejects Christ, that is a severe consequence for only that person, but that doesn't mean the whole world is lost.
