  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The point is Haggai 1 has already historically transpired, in the second year of Darius. All parallel accounts are given in Ezra 4:24-6:16.

This has no bearing on the fact that Haggai 1 has historically transpired!

No it is not! Haggai and Ezra are not the same book. We wouldn't be arguing so much if you would stop fabricating the bible so much.

a) In Ezra, the foundation of the temple was completed on the 2nd month of the 2nd year of King Cyrus: Ezra 3:7-11.
b) In Haggai, the foundation of the temple was completed on the 24th day of the 9th month of the 2nd year of King Darius: Haggai 2:10-18

The foundation of the temple was completed during the time of different kings!!!

Ezra 3:7-11 NKJV
7 They also gave money to the masons and the carpenters, and food, drink, and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre to bring cedar logs from Lebanon to the sea, to Joppa, according to the permission which they had from Cyrus king of Persia. 8 Now in the second month of the second year of their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem, Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all those who had come out of the captivity to Jerusalem, began work and appointed the Levites from twenty years old and above to oversee the work of the house of the Lord. 9 Then Jeshua with his sons and brothers, Kadmiel with his sons, and the sons of Judah, arose as one to oversee those working on the house of God: the sons of Henadad with their sons and their brethren the Levites.

10 When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests stood in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the Lord, according to the ordinance of David king of Israel. 11 And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the Lord:

“For He is good,
For His mercy endures forever toward Israel.”

Then all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.

------------------------------------------

Haggai 2:10-18 NKJV

10 On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying, 11 “Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Now, ask the priests concerning the law, saying,12 “If one carries holy meat in the fold of his garment, and with the edge he touches bread or stew, wine or oil, or any food, will it become holy?”’”

Then the priests answered and said, “No.”

13 And Haggai said, “If one who is unclean because of a dead body touches any of these, will it be unclean?”

So the priests answered and said, “It shall be unclean.”

14 Then Haggai answered and said, “‘So is this people, and so is this nation before Me,’ says the Lord, ‘and so is every work of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean.

15 ‘And now, carefully consider from this day forward: from before stone was laid upon stone in the temple of the Lord— 16 since those days, whenone came to a heap of twenty ephahs, there were but ten; whenone came to the wine vat to draw out fifty baths from the press, there werebut twenty. 17 I struck you with blight and mildew and hail in all the labors of your hands; yet you did not turn to Me,’ says the Lord. 18 ‘Consider now from this day forward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the day that the foundation of the Lord’s temple was laid—consider it:

After the foundation of the temple was completed in the book of Ezra, construction ran into opposition: Ezra 4:3-5 and construction of the temple stopped and did not resumed until the 2nd year of Darius' reign. And Darius' name isn't even mentioned for the first time until Ezra 4:5, long after the foundation was completed.

Ezra 4:3-5 NKJV
3 But Zerubbabel and Jeshua and the rest of the heads of the fathers’ houses of Israel said to them, “You may do nothing with us to build a house for our God; but we alone will build to the Lord God of Israel, as King Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us.” 4 Then the people of the land tried to discourage the people of Judah. They troubled them in building, 5 and hired counselors against them to frustrate their purpose all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.
During Darius' reign in the book of Ezra, The Jews were building the temple. The foundation was completed under Cyrus. The Jews never built the foundation during Darius' time under Ezra. Ezra 4:23-24, Ezra 5:1-2.

Ezra 4:23-24 GNT
23 As soon as this letter from Emperor Artaxerxes was read to Rehum, Shimshai, and their associates, they hurried to Jerusalem and forced the Jews to stop rebuilding the city.
24 Work on the Temple had been stopped and had remained at a standstill until the second year of the reign of Emperor Darius of Persia.

Ezra 5:1-2 GNT
1 At that time two prophets, Haggai and Zechariah son of Iddo, began to speak in the name of the God of Israel to the Jews who lived in Judah and Jerusalem. 2 When Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Joshua son of Jehozadak heard their messages, they began to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem, and the two prophets helped them.

************************************************************************

Do you understand what Ezra and Haggai wrote?

***Ezra said the foundation was completed during 2nd month of the 2nd year of Cyrus' reign! Ezra 3:7-11

***Haggai said the foundation was completed on the 24th day of 9th in the 2nd year of Darius' reign! Haggai 2:10-18

***Ezra said the sanctuary was built during Darius' reign, not the foundation! Ezra 4:23-5:2

Get it through your head. They're not the same! The temple in Ezra was the historic account of the 2nd temple. The temple in Haggai is the prophetic message on the 3rd temple.

Stop fabricating scripture!

Typical! Cherry picking scriptures in the new testament to obscure an old testament prophetic book, Haggai.

Everything in the old testament is written about a physical temple, there's nothing in all the old testament about a spiritual temple. Only in the new testament after Christ came into the world did He introduce us as a spiritual temple of God. We are a spiritual temple for the indwelling of the holy spirit.

Get it through your head. The holy spirit was given at Pentecost, after Christ ascended. This is all new testament stuff, nothing to do with the old testament or Haggai.

In case you missed it, all the scriptures you cherry picked are from the NT: Hebrews 12:22-23, Ephesians 2:20-22, John 10:22-23, Colossians 2:16-17 and Acts 17:24. You won't be able to find one verse from the old testament about a spiritual temple.

Stop fabricating scriptures!
