Some interesting Bible study 2 chronicles chapter 6 and 7, also Daniel chapter 9. Also during the civil war Lincoln made a national day of prayer and fasting, that some say turned the tide.

Isaiah 30:15 KJV "For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall you be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and you would not."

To me this is referring to working out your own salvation with fear and trembling in quietness and confidence as you wait upon the Lord to return.

...I'm pretty sure the fact that the North had the raw materials, people and industrial base also kind of helped turn the tide as well.
