What would you say is the purpose of education?
What would you say is the purpose of education?
And in many families/societies, religion is added to that.To provide children with knowledge and wisdom that reduces the time requirements of
cause and effect testing and gives children a framework of time tested information
on which to build additional insights and understanding.
Education Is good for dealing with the world but is useless when dealing with the Spiritual. The more educated one is, the more it is an obstacle for that person to be spiritual. Why? it is easier it is to fall back on our knowledge for answers. Instead of being led by Spirit.

There is spiritual education as well, which is why we are exhorted to "study to show ourselves approved....". Secular and spiritual education are parallel universes that seldom cross, but both are needed. Sadly secular education is looked to first for solutions to societal problems, which often just leads to more problems.
I like the Latin from which the word springs......'educare', a "leading out". We lead people out of ignorance and into understanding.
The problem with education is that it lacks the crucial moral component. It deals out cold, heartless facts. People are more in need of relief from moral ignorance than technical ignorance.
I tend to think that, if you equip people with enough accurate information and skills, they will find their own 'moral compass' to guide them.
And, to refute your pejoratives, I see no need why that equipping should be done in a "cold, heartless" manner.
