  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

From many posts I have seen from you all, I am beginning to think that many, if not more, believe the Old Testament to be just a myth, not something that really actually happened within the context of our world, but speaks of real places, but not real historical accounts. It just seems many TEs here view much if not all of the Old Testament as not being historical.

Am I wrong, or right?

Most of the entire OT or most of the narrative sections of the OT? There is a lot of the OT that is inherently non-historical, such as Psalms, Proverbs, Song of Solomon, and the legal codes (Leviticus and Deuteronomy).

You might then want to reword your OP. Your claim was that you came to this conclusion based on those posting here and claim that 'many', 'more' of those you see here do this. On second consideration, is this not really the case?

There are many here (TEs, and others) in the Christians forums who do not accept Adam, Abraham or Moses as being historical people. This conclusion was based off the people whom I have spoken with on this forum as a whole. (Christians)

From many posts within this particular forum, it seems like there is a large number who don't believe the OT is historically accurate.

So, I am asking, not accusing, people in this particular forum if they subscribe to the OT not being historically accurate or historical at all.

Why do you use the word "dismiss" though? You could have said:

"It just seems many TEs here view much if not all of the Old Testament as not being historical."

To me, that has a more neutral, less accusatory ring to it than "dismiss". So what do you mean by "dismiss"?

I would agree that I view some parts of the OT as not historical. I would not agree that I dismiss them. Do you see what I mean?

i really dont think the OT is myth per se. maybe written without a knowledge of scientific relevance and therefore written in cryptic ways, (which would allow the view of the OT to evolve with time) but i do believe it is true.
