"*Promotion is defined as encouragement of the progress, growth, or acceptance of something including advertising and publicity."

I am thinking about going head and posting my thread on homosexuality, in which I give my testimony as to why I support the Catholic Church's authentic and unchangeable teaching regarding Same-sex attraction. I do want this thread to be more of a discussion than a debate, but I also want opponents to question my testimony, and give me an opportunity to explain and defend it.

So I want to ask here, for a more in-depth explanation of the OBOB policy on not "promoting" as to what it means, and how far someone who support the gay movement can go, in questioning my testimony?

Basically people have to stay on the side of the Church stays on. They would not be allowed to promote homosexuality as normal or not sinful. They could say people are born that way as in predisposed to the sin but they could not say it was not a sin or it could not be overcome.

What gets me are those that acknowledge church teaching and say they are not promoting it while posting a lot of links to pro-gay apologetics in the form of a question.

This is just a question, not trying to attack you or get angry about it, I'm just curious. How come you have disabled replies in threads that don't condone homosexuality? It seems that when we try to have a debate about that disagreeing with homosexuality, it gets disabled to where no one can reply. Is that any different than any other debate on here? This was just something I was curious about.

Not exactly sure what you mean. Threads get shut down based on multiple factors. For homosexuality usually it is because they are not allowed in the forum they are in. Because it is a controversial topic it can only be in certain areas.

The wording of the rules is as follows...so much depends on where it is:

Topics Requiring Special Consideration:
  • Please check each forum's Statement of Purpose thread for any additional guidelines related to these controversial topics.
  • Abortion, adultery, premarital sex, and marijuana use may be discussed, but encouraging participation in these activities is not allowed. Illegal activities may not be encouraged or promoted*.
  • Homosexuality may not be promoted* on CF. Several debate forums allow same-sex marriage to be discussed from a political, legal, historical, and civil rights point of view. Please check the Statement of Purpose thread for individual debate forums before posting. Homosexuality and SSM may be discussed in the Congregational forums according to each forums' guidelines in their Statement of Purpose. Homosexuality and SSM may be discussed, without promotion*, in the Struggles with Sexuality and Ask a Chaplain forums solely for the purpose of seeking support with struggles overcoming same-sex attractions, and homosexual issues. Members may not promote* homosexuality or same-sex marriage in their profiles.
  • Transsexualism and transgenderism may be discussed, without promotion*, in the Congregations forums as in line with each group's beliefs there. You may post without promotion* in the Struggles with Sexuality and Ask a Chaplain forums solely for the purpose of seeking support with personal struggles related to these issues. Members may not promote* transsexualism or transgenderism in their profiles.
  • Promoting* or proselytizing religious beliefs or religions (including Satanism or Occultism) other than Christianity is not allowed. For the purpose of these rules, Christianity is defined by Christian Forums' Statement of Faith which is found in the Sitewide Rules.
  • Posts which attempt to exorcise or bind demons, or posts which give instructions on how to complete deliverance are not allowed.
  • Please do not give professional legal, financial, medical, or other counseling. Do not direct, imply, or suggest that others should disregard doctors' orders regarding medical diagnosis and/or treatment.
  • Personal Prophecy (prophetic utterance) will be considered off-topic to all site forums. These may be posted in your own personal blog.
* Promotion is defined as encouragement of the progress, growth, or acceptance of something including advertising and publicity.

Could you define "overcome" David? I would suggest the vast majority of Christians don't "overcome" their orientation i.e. Sexual, attractions.

This does not necessarily define an individual as outside the faith.
