There are some stories that are very similar to this story. For example, in the Python myth Catona is pregnant by Jove (I'm using the Roman names). Python tries to kill Catona and the baby, but Jove saves her by sending her on a win to the sea on an island. Then Apollo is born and kills Poseidon.

Another example would be the pieces of stories from the Sibylline Oracles where the Titans wait for a baby to be born and rip up all the mail children. But the gods manage to save one...etc etc.

A woman with the stars over her head almost definitely refers to the 12 points of the zodiac which, in ancient greece and rome was simply the calendar. The sun and moon similarly to cosmic things.

This and more from commentaries:
David Aune Revelation (Word Biblical Commentary)
Beasley-Murray Revelation (New Century Biblical Commentary)

Who is the Mother with 12 stars on her head and the sun on her dress?

But what about the sun?
Any clues?

Woman = Jerusalem

Ga 4:26But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

This "woman" Jerusalem however has always played the harlot and will again in the last days.

Re 17:5And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

12 stars = 12 tribes

A no brainer especially when you understand "who" is the woman.

Again we see this harlot woman also with 12 stars or better termed heads.

Re 17:3So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.

Where are the other 2 horns to make 12? They are in the False Lamb the king of this city.

Re 13:11And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

Clothed with the sun and moon = The Almighty

Re 10:1And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:

The true Lamb is clothed by the one who gives him HIS power.

Re 12:5And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

Mark.

If you are familiar with the ancestral history of ancient Israel, you may remember that Joseph described one of his revelatory dreams to his family: "Then he ... said, 'Look, I have dreamed another dream. And this time, the sun, the moon, and the eleven stars bowed down to me.' So he told it to his father and his brothers; and his father rebuked him and said to him, 'What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall your mother and I and your brothers indeed come to bow down to the earth before you? (Genesis 37:9-10).

Nevertheless, after Joseph became Pharaoh's chief deputy in Egypt, his family did bow before him. His dream proved to be a revelation from God.

Jacob, Joseph's father, quickly grasped the symbolism in Joseph's dream. The sun represented Jacob, the moon his wife and the stars his sons,12 in all, counting Joseph. In other words, the symbolism in Joseph's dream referred to Jacob's family, from which the ancient nation of Israel developed. The woman in Revelation 12, clothed with these same symbols, also represents Jacob's family, after it has expanded into a nation,God's chosen people Israel.

Hi LS

The Woman represents the True Church of God....................Not Christianity..................Not Judaism....................not Jerusalem....................But the True Church of God. In the OT that would be the Patriarchs and prophets.

It is their words that usher forth the Male Child not a city that Jesus was not even born in.

As for the Moon and the Sun.

The Sun is God.........................

Ps:84:11: For the LORD God is a sun and shield:

Remember Paul Tells us to wear God

Eph:6:11: Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

So the True Church wears the Sun or wears God as its armour

The Moon is the promise

Psalms:89:36: His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before me. 37: It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven.

So the Women is the True Church of God Clothed in God and Standing on the Promise.

The woman could also symbolize a type of JUDAH/JERUSALEM, since Jesus was to come from that house?Thoughts? Reve 5:5 But one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals."
