Aided by a veneer of objectivity, the SPLC has for years served as the media’s expert witness for evaluating “extremism” and “hatred.” But while the SPLC rightly condemns groups like the Ku Klux Klan, Westboro Baptist Church and New Black Panther Party, it has managed to blur the lines, besmirching mainstream groups like the FRC, as well as people such as social scientist Charles Murray and Somali-born Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a critic of Islamic extremism.

I really don't get why people continue to give this group the time of day.

It excuses the media from having to do real journalism... they just quote what the SPLC (or the ADL) says about people they don't like and leave it at that.

The mainstream group the propagated discredited information about homosexuals? Sorry, not seeing them as being besmirched.

Apparently the FBI agrees with my view since they stopped using it a while back.

How about the way they decided to label Hirsi Ali and Nawaz as anti - Muslim extremists. One is a Muslim reformer and the other is a women's rights activist who is critical of the way women are treated in the Muslim world because she grew up in it, including FGM.

Here is their write-up on Maajid Nawaz, including "But major elements of his story have been disputed by former friends, members of his family, fellow jihadists and journalists, and the evidence suggests that Nawaz is far more interested in self-promotion and money than in any particular ideological dispute. He told several different versions of his story, emphasizing that he was deradicalized while in Egypt — even though he in fact continued his Islamist agitation for months after returning."

The Southern Poverty Law Center does present documentation for what they say - afterwards you can disagree with the conclusions they draw if you wish.

What? You can't not read the original source when you're looking to see if they are biased. How would you know what they were writing about these people unless you actually read it? I linked to what they actually said so people for themselves could see if what they were saying was biased or not, or to what degree.
