Jesus was born and placed in an animal feed trough. No room in the inn are the words that let us know that Mary and Joseph had to use the lower level of the Inn which was the area for animals. Jesus was raised in Nazareth, which was referred to as the equivalent of a Jewish Ghetto.
Jesus began His ministry by being baptized by a Wild man, with Wild hair that wore Camels Hair, a leather belt and ate Locusts and Wild Honey. Jesus' first miracle was to turn water into Wine fit to taste spectacular and keep the wedding guests tipsy with Joy. Jesus ate and drank with five alarm sinners that the religious folks absolutely despised. Jesus didn't go and justify sin, promote sin or any of the like. Jesus forgave ALL sin for ALL time!
The entire gospel message displays that God counted Himself the servant of even the lowest of low mankind that religious authorities despised and looked down on. Jesus' entire life demonstrates that no matter of Rule keeping, commandant following, social status, wealth or poverty, presence or lack of sin separates one man from another, in the eyes of God. There are no "Chosen" people, because Jesus is the only Chosen ONE. Jews, the Chosen, had to give up their "Chosen" titles to become Christians. There were two groups. Jews and EVERYBODY else. God broke the Dam of Grace open and flooded the entire earth with HIS LOVE.
The Gospel declares that the most frowned upon Sinner has as much hope as the most exalted religious individual unto Salvation. There are no brownie points, there are no Social Status boasts. Heaven is a place of equality and equity. Think of a sin or type of sinner from the Old Covenant that might be judged by most of Christendom. Jesus has a name for these people. He calls them "The least of these".
I'm going to make a very bold statement. Every day spent in a cathedral, church or temple and every praise song sang, every bible verse read, every sin of the old covenant not committed and every sinner of society that is agreed to be the utterly most disgusting thing on planet earth and talked about as such, places no person in better standing with God than that "sinner of society that is agreed to be the utterly most disgusting thing on planet earth".
That's what Jesus accomplished on the Cross and that is how accessible that Jesus made God unto all mankind. That's the Gospel in it's purest form and it is most definitely offensive to some and hope for others.
Why should there be Brick and Mortar Bodies? To gather the financial means to help Widows, Orphans, the Homeless, Drug Addicts, Prostitutes, Mothers that can't afford to look after their own babies that were conceived out of wedlock, the Mentally ill, the poor, the sick, nations that are starving, babies that starve to death, the pariahs to the self righteous, etc etc etc.
That's the Gospel.
