Yup, I gave an advice, for the rest it's none of my business. Let's chill.

Who cares? She does. And I'm sure other people in the class, as well as the Prof, do too.

Just because it's a quiz in a music class doesn't make it any less important. Cheating in a music class is no different than cheating in a class in med school. Cheating is cheating. One doesn't need to do it "all the time" either to make it bad, one time is too many. If she can cheat in a music class knowing she will get away (and right now she has gotten away), most likely she will cheat in any other class (or the same class) in the future knowing she would get away.

If someone goes to a Prof. that someone cheated and they couldn't care less then something is seriously wrong.

If you care about it warn her or pray for her. My uncle is funny, my dad is the opposite, he was also a teacher. Here in Holland we get taught as kids that squeking is the worst thing you can do, worse than cheating. We have a kid's song about it. I guess it depends how you were raised.

Quite frankly, not having good studying habits is a very bad and lazy excuse for cheating. As far as I'm concerned, no excuse can justify cheating, definitely not that one. She is not dumb; she deliberately chose to cheat because she didn't put in the work. Going by what you're saying, I guess people might as well cheat, steal, vandalize and pretty much commit any crime they want because they gotta do what they gotta do to survive. Laws serve no purpose, huh?

It's a quiz. Chances are it carries no weight anyway.
25% of our final grade is homework and quizzes and this is one of six quizzes. I don't know what the homework - quiz distribution is but he basically gives us full credit for homework if we do it reasonably. So, I think that this quiz was probably something like 2-3% of our final grade.

Annnd of course if this system works well for her, she can try it again....

When I went to high school (in the 90's) there was this guy who was a notorious cheater, and “everybody” (at least among his class mates) knew that he was cheating... Yet he always got away with it and graduated with good grades.

When he finished high school he went on to study information technology. As part of a school project he was supposed to build a web site, and he made a site where users could share links to copyrighted intellectual property. He apparently assumed that he was safe from a legal point of view, but after a little while he was sued BIG TIME! I won't go into details about this, but he was convicted in court and had to pay a hefty sum of money.

Now, there's something about having an attitude of constantly trying to get away with questionable things... Cheating at school might seem innocent, but if you carry that attitude with you into adulthood you will sooner or later run into serious problems!

This is what I would do if I felt the need to say something. I personally would only bother if the teacher implements a curve, though, or if I saw the student doing it more than once. Though apparently class rank doesn't matter for college apps as much as it used to, so even repeated cheating might not be harmful to anyone else without a curve.

How about spending all this time studying for your next quiz and test instead of worrying about her ethics or her grade? You will always meet and work with less than honest people, the true test is how you handle yourself in the presences of unethical people.

The only way this can harm you is if the class is graded on a curve...and really, just score high enough that her grade can't effect yours anymore.

Does it make it right? No. Do you know enough about her situation to be willing to risk having her expelled over your sense of fairness? Any chance she sat up with a sick mother last night or the anniversary of her dad's death was the week before and she just couldn't concentrate and made some choices that she wouldn't have made normal?

The right thing is to turn the other cheek...and learn the material better yourself next time so her doing well or doing poorly doesn't effect you.
