Why did God suddenly stop asking people to write down his words in 200 A.D. (or whenever it was the last books of the Bible were written)? Can Christians add to the Bible nowadays if they claim divine inspiration?

Good question, St. John when he was exhiled on patmos recieved the last revelation to be written in Gods Word, which was the book of Revelations. Noone is supposed to be adding to Gods Words. They have no right to. Gods Word is done, its complete from the begining of time to the end which is Jesus trip to earth for His saints and the judgment of the rest of the world.

Allow me to play Devil's Advocate here (no pun intended ) Who says God's word is done? The church? If God instructed someone to add to God's word who are we to question that?

I'm with Bryan519. Is it proscribed that we can't add anything to the Bible, or just the book of revelations? Do you have any scripture?

After further reading, the only book that was warned about adding onto scriptures was indeed JUST the book of Revelations (Rev 22:18-19)

There are no scriptures about the other scrolls. In fact there were alot more gospels but they were rejected, they werent truly Gods Word. God never wanted it, im assuming.

Either way Gods Word is from the begining of time to the ending, so I personally doubt God would add on to more. It would have been done before. God knew what He was doing before He even gave them rights to record it.

Well, there are a few books that aren't part of the canon of scripture, such as the Protevangelium of James, that are considered to be truthful. However, all scripture is meant to be Christological and Christocentric. So, other books could be found that could very well have been authentically written by Christ's apostles and be true accounts of whatever they're about, but they wouldn't be added to the canon of Holy Scripture at this point. All of scripture is testament to the Incarnation and Resurrection of Christ. The New Testament scripture was based on the preaching/Tradition of the apostles. The Church was there before the NT was. The Holy Scriptures were written with the intent that people would believe and attain salvation. The canon of Scripture that we have was determined by Ecumenical Council based on what was already used and accepted by the Church.

i don't have an answer to the first part of your question. i've wondered that myself... but as for the second part of the question: no. it's in the bible.

Deuteronomy 4:2
2Ye do not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor diminish from it, to keep the commands of Jehovah your God which I am commanding you.
