  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You're not being called a liar. We accept that you believe as you do. We simply believe you are misguided, wrong, incorrect or at the very minimum without logical and evidential foundation.

Someone calling you incorrect is not the same as someone calling you a liar.

I don't think any atheist would try to argue the truth is wrong.... it's just that we think what is actually real is different from what you think is.

So, we must look at evidence to give us the best shot at determining fact from fiction. So far we see none supporting your case, so we can't really accept it as true.

That's one of a countless number of questions, since the Abrahamic God is one of thousands of gods...I don't see why that question matters more than any other. No, I don't really care more than I care about the existence of any other god in which people have belief.

I'm barely more of an atheist than you are. It's the difference of one god.

You say you do not care, and yet you are demonstrating that in some measure, you do care because you have taken the time to register to become a member of Christianforums (a Christian website) compile several posts within various forums, and several of these posts/replies specifically deal with God.

I believe if you care enough to do what you have done, than in at least one way it could honestly be said that you do care if God exists. If you did not care, you would not act as if you did.

If I say to you:

"I do not care at all about Spain's soccer club, or any other soccer club for that matter."

And then you find me on Spain's soccer club website in their forum posting here and posting there, and talking about various topics about the soccer club and other topics, surely you would think I was not being truthful when I said "I do not care at all about Spain's soccer club".

Having said that, I must now ask, is there anything you want to say regarding the OP?

Because our discussion currently is not pertinent to the original post.

I have been a party in facilitating the derailing of several threads. I say this to my own shame....

But my intentions were not without merit. I simply desired to reply to people's posts as best and honestly as I could, even if those posts were one by one more and more off topic. I should have kept in mind that it is easy to get off topic and monitor how far I was getting off topic by replying to other people's off topic posts.

That is why my approach here has changed. I will not be answering questions that are not pertinent to the OP.

Oh for pete's sake. How many times do I have to answer this question? I should just save the link every time I answer it so I can post the links the next time I'm asked...

  • "Know thine enemy" (But I only consider Christians the enemy in political and social arenas, not as people.)
  • I want to understand those who have different beliefs than I, because you can never be too understanding and tolerant, and the majority of my society is Christian.
  • Why preach to the choir?
  • I enjoy debate because it challenges me to question and justify my own positions (I wish to base my opinions on logic, so this is important), and it's difficult to debate with people who share the vast majority of my views.
  • It's good practice for arguing these issues, which is why I target the threads that are related to my studies and career interests. Even though the discussions on here are not of great consequence, it prepares me for more important discussions.
  • I care that some of my rights are threatened by religion, which in the US mostly means Christianity.
  • I want people to be more tolerant of irreligion.



In short, no. My presence here does not mean that I am subconsciously reaching for the light of your god or whatever. I care about finding the truth, but I don't prefer a certain conclusion.

I never said or even implied that your presence here meant that you were subconsciously reaching for the light of Christ.

What I did say was that your presence here and your repeated postings here contradict the following statement which you have made, and I quote:

"No, I don't really care [about the existence of the Abrahamic God] more than I care about the existence of any other god in which people have belief."

You act as if you know for a fact that the Abrahamic God does not exist. But since that is not even possible for you to know, I would recommend you continue your search for "finding truth" as you put it.

Whether or not God (The Greatest Conceivable Being) exists or not should be your biggest concern. For if He does, then it is only rational to think He can communicate with us, and if He can communicate with us, then it is only rational to think that He would want to, and if He would want to, then it is rational to think that He has....

So all this time, you very well might be apathetic to the One who desires to communicate with you.
