  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Greetings Hotmetal,

The Abrahamic Covenant is here:

Which was passed to Isaac:

Which was passed to Jacob:

And this was to the Hebrews in Egypt:

We see this frequently in both testaments, that God "remembers the covenant which He made with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob".

Now look carefully at these verses:

So I shall sum up the "covenant" with Abraham, Isaac & Jacob as: The "restoration to righteousness (right standing with God) to Israel", and ALSO "restore them to their land, given initially to Abraham."

But please note that BEFORE they are restored to the land, they must have a change of heart toward God - THEN they will be restored to their land.

Now if you read Romans 9-11, this is what Paul is discussing.

Romans 11:1-2 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew.....

Romans 11:7-8 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded 8 (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear) unto this day.

Romans 11:11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.

Romans 11:15 For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

Romans 11:25-27 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

This "covenant" shall not be fulfilled until (1) "the fulness of the Gentiles be come in (to the kingdom of God)" and (2) "when they have accepted Jesus Christ as their Messiah".

That places the "return to their land" at the time of the Lord's 2nd advent when both Jew and Gentile shall reign with Him for 1,000 years from the land given in covenant to Abraham.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

Confusion arises from St Paul's failure to differentiate between the Abrahamic Covenant and the Mosiac Covenant. The Abrahamic Covenant was an unconditional covenant that established or confirmed God's selection of a righteous minority and the conformation of eternal benefits to them. The Mosiac Covenant was a condional covenant for the people who came out of Egypt with Moses and who would live in the Land. It conveys only temporal, not eternal benefits and has no application to any gentile except those living in the Land or converting to Judiasm.

Before I go, does tithing have anything to do with this?
Greetings Hotmetal,

You won't find "tithing" in the ten commandments, nor will you find it a requirement in the NT. However, gifts and offerings and taking care of the needy, the widow and orphan are common in the NT. We are also to give to those of the church in the eldership "because a worker is worth his wages." In actuality, if you do a study of "tithing, offerings, sacrifices and gifts" in the OT, you will see that their giving reached to about 50% of their income. Today, we are led by the Holy Spirit to "give cheerfully". We are only to be good stewards of God's provisions, and what He provides us is expected to have a healthy return as we "plant seeds" in the Kingdom of God" with what He gave us.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

The new covenant and the everlasting covenant are the same.

"and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant."

Jeremiah 31:33

"This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel
after that time," declares the LORD .
"I will put my law in their minds
and write it on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.

Ezekiel 36:26

"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh."

Hebrews 8:6-10

"6But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.
7For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. 8But God found fault with the people and said[2] :
"The time is coming, declares the Lord,
when I will make a new covenant
with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah.
9It will not be like the covenant
I made with their forefathers
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they did not remain faithful to my covenant,
and I turned away from them, declares the Lord.
10This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord.
I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people."
