i posted this in the Friendship Room. but i'm posting here too. more answers maybe.

when we pray, we say "in Jesus name, amen." at the end of the prayer right? well, if we talk to God...just talking...maybe asking a question or something...can we just talk without saying that at the end? does He still hear us? does He still answer us?

I agree with snow40. Jesus knows what you need, even before you know. He is always with us. Almost all of my prayers are offered in an informal sense.
It is good though to say that we pray through Jesus, because it reminds us that it was through hs sacrifice that we can speak directly to God. He opened the door for us.

I agree with all of the above.

To be honest, ending a prayer with "in Jesus' name" is a man made thing. We're not told to do that in scripture (although you certainly can do that and I do say that when I pray).

When Jesus said, "whatever you ask in my name", I think the principle here isn't that there is some sort of magic in Jesus' name, but that we are to ask for things according to His will.

We already have entree into God's presence and He already hears our prayers, thanks to the reconciliation we have recieved through Christ, so it's already assumed when we pray that we are praying in Jesus' name.

Feel free to say "in Jesus' name", but don't feel like you have to.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth and Life. No one comes to the Father except through. Jesus Christ is our mediator. We therefore always pray through Jesus Christ our Lord, there is no other way, if you are a CHRISTian!

While it's true that Christ is our mediator, that doesn't mean we have to end every prayer with the words "in Jesus' Name," or with any other words for that matter. As others have said here, those words are not mandated in scripture.

Personally, I probably end my prayers that way about half of the time.
