I think Christ would be honored by you taking communion and remembering his death at this time. It's a little piece of bread so it's not going to break your fast like it would if you were eating a whole meal. What did the rest of your church members who were doing the fast do?

I'm changing my view from what I posted earlier. I think you should take communion. I've heard that a fast starves the body of food so you can fill yourself with the Word and Spirit. By taking communion, you're taking Christ's body and blood, so you're filling yourself, but not with mere food.

I decided to fast from food myself for one day today because I wanted to get more into the shoes of suffering persecuted believers around the world so I can pray better. I had water and took communion twice - I don't think there was anything wrong with that.

I felt it was like: when we fast it is so we can feast on God rather than on the things we usually fill ourselves up with. COmmunion is like feasting on Christ because we accept his grace for our failings and weaknesses and sins. It also helps us see how we are all dependent on God and part of a global body of people - it connects us with the people we are praying for and with by fasting with a specific prayer focus in mind like the international day of prayer for the persecuted Church. It helps us thank God for the freedom we have to celebrate communion and to meet together to worship God whereas others in other parts of the world would find this difficult, impossible or dangerous, so we can think of them as also part of Christ's body even when they haven't the bread and wine or grape juice or the knowledge of how to do communion as a ceremony like traditional churches do with all the right prayers etc..

Our sermon was on communion tonight and the minister gave only 2 reasons why we shouldn't take communion, and fasting was not one of them.
reasons not to take communion
1) we shouldn't take communion if we have no intention or desire to stop living with a particular sin
2) we shouldn't take communion if we are holding a grudge against someone or refuse to accept fellowship with someone until we've forgiven them

Hope this helps

A couple years ago I did a ten day Mastercleanse fast. It started out just for health reasons but ended as Spiritual. It just happened that the day I was ending my fast was communion Sunday at our Church. Breaking the fast with the taking of Communion was a very moving and intense experience. Emptying yourself and then having the first thing you take in... Hard to describe. It would certainly be worth working out the timing and ending this way as part of your fasting/worship plan.
God Bless!
